Tetra Tech is actively pursuing an Environmental Field Technician in our Pittsburgh office. The ideal candidate must have strong quantitative skillsets to support various field projects in the United States from remediation to construction. This position will work closely with project managers, engineers, and scientists to support a variety of public (federal, state, local) and private (industrial, utility) clients with hands on remedial investigations, remedial actions, and wide range of various civil/environmental projects. This position requires the employee to be a U.S. Citizen due to the projects they will be working on.

Your Role:

•    The successful candidate will work as a team member to support routine and non-routine assignments related to field projects of substantial variety and complexity.
•    Candidate will conduct field tasks on environmental projects such as air, soil, sediment, surface water, and groundwater sampling, operate construction equipment, vegetation clearing, industrial cleaning, and operation and maintenance (O&M). They will perform all components of projects in accordance with RCRA, CERCLA, TSCA, UST, CWA and other appropriate state and federal regulations. This will require reviews of progress and evaluation of the candidate's skills.
•    Performs a wide variety of tasks associated with industrial waste clean-up, site remediation, equipment and facility decontamination and handling of hazardous and non-hazardous materials.
•    Performs tasks involving the use of vacuum trucks, bulk hauling equipment, high pressure water jetting equipment, and other specialized equipment.
•    Operate equipment typically involved with civil type projects.
•    Operate well sampling equipment.
•    Excellent attitude toward personal safety, process safety, and environmental compliance.
•    Other duties as required by the position.
•    Conduct  activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
•    Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline, knowledge and awareness.
•    Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. •    Basic understanding of the following areas of site grading and earthworks, sampling, environmental regulations, remediation, and environmental investigations and remediation.
•    OSHA Construction Safety and/or 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER training and current 8-hour refresher training is preferred.
•    Equipment Operation Training
•    Valid Driver's License
•    Due to contractual requirements, must be a US Citizen.

Education & Experience:  
•    High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)
•    Prior Environmental Field Technician Experience

This position requires the candidate to be a U.S. Citizen due to the projects they will be working on.

If this position requires a CAC card, CUI Enclave Access and/or a Security Clearance, a background check will be completed.

Physical Demands:

•    Must have ability to wear a tight fitting, negative-pressure respirator and occlusive chemical protective clothing; Required PPE: OSHA Level A, B, C or D: Tight-fitting, air-purifying respirator (full face), SCBA equipment, hard hat, safety glasses with side-shields, metatarsal safety boots, ear plugs, leather and chemical work gloves, chemical protective clothing, fire retardant clothing, and other as required by specific task.
•    Position requires working on uneven work surfaces frequent pushing/pulling/carrying of equipment/objects/debris of varying and often awkward sizes/shapes/weights including bending, lifting, pushing, and pulling drums, totes and containers, handling of tank truck hoses.
•    Ability to operate pressure washers and steam cleaners.
•    Ability to operate handheld clearing equipment
•    May occasionally lift 75 pounds and frequently lift 40 to 50 pounds.
•    Periodic/frequent work with hazardous chemicals while utilizing designated personal protective equipment.
•    Exposure to elements including heat and cold, heights, dust conditions, and working alongside streams/rivers/highways, etc.
•    Frequently climbs ladders, stairs, etc.
•    May use both manual and power hand tools such as a hand shovel, chain saw, or drill, while being exposed to noise and vibration.
•    May work up to 12 hours per day, 7 days per week.
•    Overnight stays may be required; must be able and available to travel via land and/or air and possess a valid drivers' license in good standing.
•    Other duties as required by the position.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often exposed to outdoor weather conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, moving equipment and mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The work is 100% travel overnight.

Language & Communication Skills: 
Candidates should be fluent in the English language and possess verbal/written communication skills. Candidates must be able to professionally interact with clients, other staff, and the public.

Mathematical Skills:  Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and divisions skills are required.
Other Skills:  Basic computer skills to send emails and communicate online. The ability to communicate using text messaging is required.
