Your Role:
Looking for an opportunity to work with a collaborative, diverse team that works with Federal Agencies to respond to immediate threats to the environment and protect public health? This may be the perfect opportunity for you. For over 25 years, our team of scientists, engineers, GIS analysts, and technical specialists have supported the U.S. EPA's Superfund Technical Assessment and Response program in regions across the country. Our Atlanta area office provides technical expertise in environmental consulting, engineering, regulatory compliance, sustainability, resiliency, and investigation/remediation of critically impacted properties throughout the Southeast. Additionally, our team provides direct emergency preparedness and response support to the U.S. EPA across the region.
We are looking for a candidate with at least three years' experience in environmental emergency response operations or environmental consulting and a minimum of a bachelor's degree in environmental science, physical sciences (e.g. physics, chemistry, geology, meteorology), ecology, sustainability or applied science in sustainability, life sciences, engineering or other acceptable science or natural resource related field.
Preference will be given to candidates with full-time professional experience conducting and coordinating environmental emergency responses. Our ideal candidate will have previous experience on response and removal projects in coordination with local, state, or Federal emergency response managers and in-depth knowledge of National Incident Management System (NIMS) and incident command system (ICS).
Highlighted Responsibilities:
- Provides technical assistance in support of preparedness, removal actions, hazardous waste, site investigations, site remediation, field sampling, and air monitoring/quality
- Plans for field events that include multimedia sampling and field data collection, interpret results, and prepare or direct the preparation of reports and other deliverables, including work products developed using geographic information system (GIS) technologies
- Works well in a team environment as well as independently without supervision
- Supports emergency response on-call activities up to two weeks per month with the ability to respond inside a mandatory response time of 3-hours.
- Requires periodic travel to support environmental emergency situations throughout the south central U.S. including the management or support of field teams.
- Supports effective team and client communication and the capability to support technical training and demonstrations.
- Provides well written, well formatted, accurate and concise technical reports supported by a mastery MS Office applications (i.e. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

Qualifications:
- Demonstrated knowledge, understanding, and leadership in emergency response operations, emergency management, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) guidance for environmental response and cleanup, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) operations
- Experience including counter-terrorism, public health, fire/hazmat, EOD, emergency medicine, continuity of operations planning, and/or exercise planning and execution is highly preferred
- Experience with field environmental chemistry including unknown hazardous chemical identification.
- Experience with the planning and executing work in all levels of personal protective equipment (OSHA Level A, B, C, and D).
- Willingness to mobilize or coordinate/direct mobilizations on short notice during rotating on call schedule
- Experience using various types of field equipment and conducting sampling and data collection using remotely monitored instruments and electronic documentation one phone and tablet-based systems
- Knowledge of federal and state regulations, including CERCLA, OPA, Stafford Act is preferred
- Strong communication (written and verbal) and reporting skills
- 40-hour OSHA training preferred
- Demonstrated experience as an environmental, oil spill and hazardous materials first responder experience preferred.
- Advanced Incident Command System (ICS) training preferred
Education and Certifications:
B.A/B.S. in environmental science, engineering ,physical science, ecology, sustainability, or other related field required, with a minimum of 3-years experience in emergency response, emergency management, environmental consulting or related field
Physical Demands:
Work may involve dealing with inclement weather conditions and some lifting (up to 50 lbs), as well as the potential for all levels of personal protective equipment, including use of respirator and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
Work Environment:
Work may include hazardous site conditions for which HAZWOPER and other training is required
