Position Summary:

As the Electrical Group Lead, you will oversee electrical design efforts for a wide range of projects, manage project delivery, and provide technical guidance to ensure the highest quality outcomes. This position requires strong leadership, deep technical expertise, and the ability to collaborate across disciplines and with clients.

 

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide technical guidance during client meetings and accurately estimate levels of effort for electrical design tasks.

  • Independently perform project management responsibilities, ensuring scope, schedule, and budget alignment.

  • Lead electrical systems planning, design, and calculations.

  • Develop detailed electrical and control schematics.

  • Design medium- and low-voltage power systems, lighting, grounding, lightning protection, fire alarm, security, and other low-voltage systems.

  • Prepare project-specific technical specifications and documentation in accordance with CSI MasterFormat.

  • Ensure project milestones are met within budgetary constraints.

  • Prepare and review status reports, basis-of-design documents, project manuals, client responses, and technical memoranda.

  • Conduct technical presentations, participate in interviews, and represent Tetra Tech in client-facing settings.

  • Accurately estimate electrical construction costs at various stages of project development.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of experience in a consulting engineering environment.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required, with ability to obtain additional state registrations via comity.

  • Proven project management experience; PMP certification preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience in utility coordination and permitting processes.

  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills with the ability to lead project teams on large, multidisciplinary projects.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and technical presentation skills.

  • Comprehensive understanding of NEC and other regulations governing electrical system design and construction.

  • Proficiency with power systems analysis software (e.g., SKM Power*Tools, ETAP, EasyPower).

  • Experience with the design of water and wastewater facilities; additional experience with vehicle maintenance facilities, offices, laboratories, and military facilities is desirable.

  • Valid, unrestricted driver's license.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PMP Certification or formal project management training.

  • Experience supporting business development and proposal efforts.

  • Familiarity with Revit or AutoCAD Electrical platforms for design coordination.

 

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, or climb for extended periods during field inspections.

  • Ability to lift or carry up to 25 pounds (tools, plans, or equipment).

  • Requires fine motor skills and visual acuity to operate instruments, review drawings, and perform detailed technical work.

  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively in person, over the phone, and through written correspondence.

 

Work Environment / Environmental Factors:

  • Work is performed in both office and field environments.

  • Fieldwork may take place in treatment plants, pump stations, industrial facilities, and active construction sites.

  • Exposure to noise, heat, mechanical equipment, confined spaces, and electrical systems is common.

  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE)—including hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots—is required.

  • Occasional travel may be required to support project sites, facility assessments, or client meetings.
