The Opportunity:
Tetra Tech is adding a Civil/Geotechnical Engineer for our Parsippany, NJ office. The successful candidate will work under the mentorship of experienced senior engineering staff and integrate geotechnical design and investigation work with civil, structural, environmental, and other disciplines as part of design and forensic teams for complex projects. Projects may include alternative and renewable energy facilities (wind, solar, biofuels, etc.), coastal and marine facilities, industrial facilities, stream restoration, dams, solid waste, remediation, and military facilities throughout the United States and internationally.

Your Role:
- Prepare and develop civil/geotechnical field investigation and laboratory testing programs.
- Perform site reconnaissance for geotechnical issues and geological information.
- Support geotechnical field investigations including but not limited to soil SPT sampling, rock coring, groundwater monitoring, soil logging/classification using USCS and ASTM standards, site characterizations, infiltration testing, construction oversight, instrumentation testing, etc.
- Preparation of geotechnical engineering reports, designs, calculations, and other reporting documents.
- Assist in shallow and deep foundation analyses, slope stability analysis, soil and rock-cut slope designs, and subgrade evaluations for single and multi-storied buildings, tower foundations, marine structures, process plant facility, earth retaining structures, foundation underpinning, dewatering, civil drainage and grading, soil and groundwater remediation systems, and renewable energy projects.
- Support field investigation activities including condition surveys, field measurement and data collection, and use of global positioning systems.
- Other duties may include performing conceptual/detailed engineering calculations, preparing reports and presentations, preparing and optimizing standard engineering details, CAD design, performing and reviewing engineering calculations, conducting field support and site visits.
- Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
- Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
- Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
- Additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in civil/geotechnical engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
- 5-10 years progressive professional experience in geotechnical engineering.
- EIT Certification.
- PE certification or ability to obtain within 1 year of hire.
- Ability to supervise or QA/QC soil drilling and construction inspection for private and public projects.
- Availability to travel across New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania, sometimes nationally.
- Knowledge of civil and geotechnical engineering principles and practices, and engineering software such as gINT, OpenGround, Slide or Slope/W, LPile, RSPile, APile, GRLWEAP, Mathcad, DeepEx, RS2, Plaxis, etc.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D and ArcGIS.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Microsoft Project).
- Strong and creative problem-solving ability.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience in writing design reports, calculation packages and specifications.
- Be self-motivated and interested in working with a team of engineering professionals to provide high-quality technical service for a wide variety of project types.
- Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.
