The Opportunity:
Tetra Tech is seeking Civil & Environmental Engineering Interns to support our Water/Wastewater group. As part of our team, you'll gain hands-on experience working on a wide range of municipal projects — from collection and conveyance systems to pump stations, storage, treatment facilities, and rehabilitation efforts. Position Summary:
The Civil & Environmental Engineering Intern will assist in the design, permitting, and construction support of municipal water and wastewater infrastructure projects. This position provides an opportunity to apply academic knowledge to real-world engineering challenges while contributing to sustainable public infrastructure solutions.
Essential Job Functions:

- Assist in the design and permitting of municipal water/wastewater projects.
- Perform conceptual and detailed design calculations and analyses.
- Contribute to the preparation of engineering reports and supporting documentation.
- Assist with construction drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Collaborate and interface with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Plan, coordinate, and execute tasks in a safe, timely, cost-effective, and compliant manner.
Required Qualifications:
- Third- or fourth-year student pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or related Engineering discipline.
- Familiarity with relevant codes and industry standards.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Interest in sustainable design and public infrastructure solutions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Coursework or prior internship experience in water, wastewater, or environmental engineering; familiarity with GIS, hydraulic modeling, or construction inspection; and demonstrated teamwork and initiative.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform occasional fieldwork in varying conditions.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Frequent use of computers and office equipment.
Work Environment / Environmental Factors:
- Work performed in a combination of office and field settings.
- Occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
- Moderate noise levels in both environments.
Additional Information:
- Internship; full-time or part-time schedule depending on academic calendar.
- Location: East Lansing, MI
- Some travel to project sites may be required.
