Our Geo-Environmental Team comprises 3 core disciplines, Ground Investigation, Land Quality and Groundwater & Geothermal delivering our services to a broad range of private clients and the public sector, working on a variety challenging projects and sites and often with colleagues in multidisciplinary teams. You will be responsible for developing clients and providing consultancy support for clients such as Harworth Estates, Homes England, MOD, Water companies and National Highways.

We have an opportunity for an experienced ground investigation manager, who is familiar with managing all aspects of ground investigations (GI's), to join our Geo-environment team working in contaminated land, site investigation and brownfield redevelopment across a variety of market sectors including property & regeneration, defence estates, energy and transport.  This is an excellent opportunity to become part of an established and successful team with the opportunity to shape, progress and grow their career.

The role is focused on Northwest region as part of our existing Geo-environment team based in Manchester but also provides an opportunity to work on National and International projects across all sectors. You will be a Senior member of our GI discipline and report directly to the discipline Head of Ground Investigation.

Key aspects of the role are as follows:

  • Act as Project Manager for Regional and National GI frameworks and major GI projects
  • Provide high quality advice and solutions to clients.
  • Lead on tenders and the negotiation of commercial fee proposals, with support from the team.
  • Manage and develop our valued supply chain.
  • Oversee projects being delivered on time, within budget and in line with appropriate quality standards and to carry out project finance control.
  • Achieve revenue and profitability targets in line with objectives.
  • Be part of our Ground Investigation Skills working group to promote & share best practise, innovation and business development.
  • Contribute to the business strategy of the Geo-Environment Team in ground investigation
  • Mentor and train more junior staff in ground investigation

In addition to the above you will be expected to contribute towards the following:

  • Drive business development activity to secure new clients and develop and nurture existing client relationships in ground investigation contracting
  • Be a senior point of contact to staff in other disciplines particularly in the northwest. This will include attending northern business development calls / meetings, liaising with other disciplines in Manchester (particularly Engineering, Planning and Ecology) and other offices across the Northwest (Liverpool / Cockermouth) to develop and implement key client engagement plans and to deliver work.
  • Liaise with other members of Geo-environment across the north and nationwide to utilise the skills required for new work.
  • Assist in leadership of the Manchester team.  You will support their development through coaching and mentoring.  You will help to grow the team by generating new and repeat business.  
  • Contribute to the business strategy of the Geo-Environment Team.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • You will have a degree in geology, engineering geology, environmental science or related subject and ideally Chartered or working toward Chartership with a professional body.
  • Several years post grad experience
  • Project management experience and skills including coordination of a large ground investigation, control and management of resources, quality, budget and programme while delivering works safely and to a high technical standard.
  • You must have a good understanding of health, safety and environmental management.
  • Be a good communicator with evidence of having developed strong client relationships.
  • An aptitude to drive and support the growth of our ground investigation business across the southwest, nationally and internally an advantage.
  • Excellent teamwork skills but also able to work independently and use initiative.
  • Full Driving Licence
