Your Role:

Working across the Markets, Clients, and Strategy team and with delivery teams, the Associate Director will contribute to developing and delivering business development strategies, client services and high quality technical programming related to disaster risk reduction and resilience.

Working closely with the Director – Climate Change and Environment, you will support and help grow the disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience portfolio, contributing across four key areas:

New Business Development:  Developing proposals, building networks, and engaging with clients to secure and expand work in DRR and resilience.

Project Management: Supporting and overseeing all aspects of our projects, from start-up to close-out and depending on business need, taking on roles in project or program delivery;

Technical excellence: Providing innovation, thought leadership, and mentoring in disaster risk reduction and resilience programming.

Organizational and Professional Development: Taking responsibility and actively working for your own professional development, and supporting the Director, Climate Change and Environment on the professional development of others in the Climate Change and Environment practice area, while also contributing to broader objectives of the company.

Key responsibilities include: 

·         Knowing, applying, and innovating concepts, practices, and procedures related to disaster risk reduction in program design, delivery, technical assistance, and evaluation.

·         Disaster risk reduction and resilience program delivery, including administrative excellence and technical innovation in support of helping clients improve their adaptive capacity and become more resilient to the effects and costs of disasters.

·         Manage and oversee some aspects of large and/or complex project(s), from start-up through close-out, with minimal supervision, including budget development and management.

·         Ensure contract compliance in accordance with client and Tetra Tech requirements, making difficult decisions as needed and in consultation with the Director, Climate Change and Environment.

·         Manage and engage key internal and external stakeholders, including delivery partners, in opportunities to support the pursuit strategy and address client expectations.

·         Contribute to technical excellence by demonstrating thought leadership through research, media and written products, conferences and presentations highlighting Tetra Tech's technical capabilities.

·         Contribute to the annual tactical planning and background analytical work required to formulate the plan and relevant targets.

·         Promote a culture of performance, collaboration, and teamwork when effectively leading and managing large and/or complex teams.

·         Influence and motivate a culture of learning and development and information sharing across the business to inform growing the practice area and strengthening business development processes.

·         Champion inclusive development principles, including localization, gender equality, and First Nations engagement, in the design and delivery of DRR and resilience programs.

·         Support the overall Markets, Clients, and Strategy team in the preparation of bids for tenders and participate in wider business development activities across other parts of the business bringing a focus and expertise on targeted climate and disaster actions and integration across diverse sectors.

·         Bring pre-qualified opportunities to the business through sector knowledge, accessing information via networks, bid management and client meetings

·         Supporting the Director, Climate Change and Environment as lead tracker, “proposal champion,” and strategist for key pre-RFP new business pursuits.

• Contribute to and support the development of proposal budgets that focus on balancing budgeting for a “price to implement AND win” strategy.

• Take a significant role in identifying, tracking and cultivating business opportunities through maintaining professional networks, technical excellence and proactive approaches to potential clients.

Qualifications:

·         Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Natural Resources Management, Environmental Science, or related science degree.

·         Science based masters degree is preferred.

·         Minimum number of years of experience required for this position are 7 years.

·         Willingness and ability to travel as needed, approximately 25%.

·         Demonstrated expertise in the intersection of disaster risk reduction and resilience and the international development sector with business development experience.

·         Established relationships with key stakeholders, particularly DFAT, but also including other Australian departments and international organizations operating across the fields of climate change, disaster resilience, and/or environment in the Indo-Pacific

·         Deep understanding of the machinery of government and international organization clients in the Indo-Pacific region, both at a country level and regional level as it relates to climate change, adaptation planning, and/or disaster preparedness and responses in the region

·         An understanding of how to incorporate examples of disaster risk reduction and resilience work in humanitarian and development programming to strengthen business development and solution offerings

·         Proven experience and skills in delivering / managing international development programs or activities with partner nations or international organizations, and capability to operationalize key policies in cross cultural environments

·         Experienced leader with demonstrated skills in managing talent, building teams, and creating a high- performance team culture

·         Demonstrated proficiency in techniques and tools (e.g., climate mainstreaming, risk and vulnerability assessments, environmental, urban or master planning, geospatial analysis)

·         Demonstrated understanding of how to broker contract management and deliver technical and client needs across home office and field project teams

·         Demonstrated experience applying and building effective working relationships with disaster preparedness and response actors, for example, governments, CROP agencies, civil society actors and local communities.

The noise level in the primary work environment is usually moderate, i.e., business office with computers, printers, etc.

Language & Communication Skills:  Must be fluent in the English language – writing and speaking.  Must be able to write reports and give presentations in English.

Other Skills: Instructions: :Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows-based word processing and spreadsheet software.

 CA Salary Range: $110,000 to $125,000
