Tetra Tech International Development is currently accepting expressions of interest from qualified candidates for a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Intern for our Data, Analytics, and Technology (DAT) unit.
Position Description: The GIS Intern will support the DAT unit in providing geospatial expertise for international development projects and working to promote innovative approaches to geospatial solutions for projects and new business efforts. Candidates should be experienced in spatial analysis, creating publishable maps, data cleaning, knowledgeable of geospatial solution design and implementation, and an enthusiastic advocate for new technologies. The DAT unit works to support new business efforts, research and develop appropriate technological solutions for project implementation, support projects in the field, and provide training and staff capacity building. The GIS Intern must bring concrete skills in GIS, remote sensing, and international development. The successful candidate will participate in multiple digital transformation activities to facilitate the organization's data and analytics delivery and growth.
The position can be fully remote from a US-based location or hybrid within a commutable distance to either one of our office locations in Winooski, VT or Arlington, VA. This internship is paid, and hours are flexible, up to 40 per week for up to 6 months.
Responsibilities:
* Provide expertise on spatial data collection and management, map creation, web mapping, spatial analysis, data visualization and remote sensing;
* Monitor trends and test tools in the geospatial marketplace for customization and adoption;
* Support the development of analytics using Google Earth Engine and other open source, innovative tools;
* Support new business efforts to incorporate technological solutions and innovative approaches into new business products;
* Support the development of trainings on geospatial aspects of technology and innovation for Home Office and Field Office staff;
* Contribute to developing platforms, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and guidance related to data governance and responsible data management and use; and,
* Perform other relevant duties as identified by DAT.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
* Minimum bachelor's degree completed in GIS, remote sensing, geography, or another related field required;
* At least 1 year experience in GIS consulting and/or implementation with international field experience preferred;
* High proficiency in the ESRI suite (ArcGIS Desktop, Pro, Online) required;
* Proficiency using programming languages and associated GIS packages such as R (gglplot2) or Python (ArcPy) preferred;
* Proficiency in QGIS or alternate open-source GIS is preferred such as Google Earth Engine;
* Experience using mobile data collection applications for mapping purposes;
* Experience in web cartography across multiple web mapping platforms, and experience with other non-spatial database systems;
* Knowledge of international development projects, particularly USAID-funded initiatives preferred;
* Very strong time management, multitasking, and organizational skills;
* Strong interpersonal skills, energy, and an enthusiastic collaborator;
* Ability to remain poised and focused in a fast-paced environment; and
* Current U.S. work authorization is required at the time of application.
