This position will be based in Arlington, Virginia. Hybrid and remote options are available.

Position Description/Summary: FEWS NET is dedicated to delivering early warning of hazards, food insecurity, vulnerability, and famine to the US Government, USAID, national governments, and various regional, international, and non-governmental organizations. FEWS NET 8 will continue the critical work that FEWS NET has delivered for over 30 years, emphasizing global coverage and innovation in food security monitoring and assessment. Managed from a headquarters office in Washington D.C., FEWS NET 8 will extend its reach beyond traditional geographical limitations, providing decision support services for over 30 presence countries and global early warning of food security and humanitarian crises.

* Contribute to the development of improved analytical tools that can be used to monitor, assess, and communicate food insecurity information;

* Act as an internal resource and technical expert for colleagues within this technical sub-domain. Develop trainings and briefers or other collateral to support the integration of climate-smart analysis into relevant decision-making processes;

* Upon request, coordinate with external stakeholders in the field, including UN, USG agencies, and host country institutions, which are operating relevant climate change initiatives within food security analyses or mechanisms;

* Conduct applied research resulting in the development of white papers relevant to climate change implications for food security and famine early warning.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

* Master's degree in international development, agricultural economics, or similar degree with specific expertise in climate change and early warning systems;

* A minimum of ten (10) years of relevant work experience in the field of agricultural development, disaster risk reduction and livelihoods;

* Experience working with USAID strongly preferred;

* Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
