Overview

The Vermont Veterans' Home (VVH) is seeking to hire part-time Groundskeepers in their Environmental Services Division.

 

These temporary positions involve semi-skilled work in maintaining, caring for, and improving the grounds and landscapes of the Vermont Veterans' Home (VVH). Duties include operating both electric- and gas-powered groundskeeping equipment, as well as using hand and power tools for planting, cultivating, and trimming. Groundskeepers also maintain and make minor repairs to equipment and tools as needed.

 

During the winter months, tasks include shoveling snow, sanding and salting sidewalks and pathways, and clearing entrances and exits. Groundskeepers may also assist with a variety of non-landscaping tasks such as painting, cleaning, sweeping, minor carpentry, plumbing, and electrical repairs, as well as delivering supplies and providing general custodial services.

 

These positions will work 20 to 30 hours per week, depending on availability and weather conditions. These can be long-term temporary positions for the right candidates.

Who May Apply

This position, VVH Part-Time Groundskeeper (Job Requisition #52782), is open to all State employees and external applicants. This is a temporary position. Temporary work is typically for variable hours and is not expected to be full-time. The State does not guarantee 40 hours of work per week.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed at the Vermont Veterans' Home. Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather. Good physical condition required. Considerable standing, walking, lifting, and carrying of heavy objects may be required. Weekend and evening hours may be required. Duties are performed in a nursing home environment, including office, common areas and patient care areas. Direct interactions with patients may be extensive, leading to potential exposure to infectious disease or physical injury. Incumbents must be prepared to drive a vehicle in all types of weather.
