The Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing (VDTM) is poised to lead a transformative initiative fueled by a significant investment of federal funds to bolster the long-term economic recovery and sustainability of travel, tourism, and outdoor recreation within the state. VDTM is seeking a dynamic and experienced program administrator to guide and manage our efforts, working closely with both internal teams and contracted service providers for tasks that include strategic planning for long-term destination management; visitation, brand perception and economic impact research; technical assistance for communities to leverage outdoor recreational assets; and pilot program initiatives in hospitality and outdoor recreation workforce development.

Primary responsibilities include managing all aspects of stakeholder engagement to ensure broad participation and meaningful collaboration with tourism industry partners on strategic planning and research initiatives; developing a comprehensive database of points of interest statewide to be used for visitation research, economic impact studies and a geolocation data dashboard; and providing programmatic technical assistance to grant recipients receiving subawards for event and regional marketing initiatives, visitor economy talent pipeline development, and outdoor recreation planning. This position will also be responsible for preparing written reports to fulfill federal reporting requirements on project milestones and outcomes.

The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years or more of experience in sales, marketing and communications, tourism and hospitality, community planning, outdoor recreation, or events. Candidate must be comfortable with public speaking and have the ability to effectively engage with a diverse mix of community and industry stakeholders, as well as with the general public.  The ideal candidate will have experience in project management, preferably in the tourism, community, or economic development sector, and must be able to manage multiple complex projects with differing timelines concurrently. Considerable knowledge of the state's tourism resources, including attractions, outdoor recreation opportunities, cultural amenities, events, lodging properties and resorts would be beneficial. The position requires a high level of organization and attention to detail, and the ability to work independently, with various program partners, and as part of a highly collaborative team.
