Overview

The Vermont Department of Corrections is looking for a Recreation Services Coordinator to work at Marble Valley Correctional Facility in Rutland.  As the Rec Services coordinator, you'll:

  • Prepare and maintain a recreational budget
  • Run recreations as needed both indoor & outdoor, morning and afternoon
  • Maintain gym and yard equipment
  • Inventory, and order supplies
  • Oversee the ICS table system, coordinating with central office and ICS services
  • Distribute canteen with the Volunteer Services Coordinator each week
  • Supervise the front office cleaner  

 

This is a full time position, Monday through Friday from 8a-4p, with holidays off.  You will perform other duties directed by superiors.

 

As of July 14, 2025, the step 1 rate for pay grade 19 will be $23.12 per hour.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed primarily within an institutional setting. Incumbents must possess considerable interpersonal human relations skills, including patience, understanding, and humor, to deal effectively with the institutions inmate population and other staff members. Emotional and mental stability is required. Significant interaction with inmates is required.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in recreation, physical education, or therapeutic recreation.

OR

High School diploma or equivalent AND four (4) years or more of experience at or above a technical level in social services, organizing a community recreation program, education, or a related human services program, including supervisory or coordinating responsibilities.

Special Requirements

Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position. In accordance with AHS Policy 4.02, Hiring Standards, Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates, with the exception of those who are current classified state employees seeking transfer, promotion or demotion into an AHS classified position or are persons exercising re-employment (RIF) rights.
