Overview

The Vermont Military Department is looking for a Military Vehicle & Equipment Technician to work primarily at Camp Johnson in Colchester.

 

Military Vehicle & Equipment Technician are responsible for maintenance work across multiple Equipment types including but limited to:

  • Loaders
  • Lawn tractors/mowers 
  • Trimmers
  • Dump trucks
  • Snowplows and sanders
  • Generators

 

Military Vehicle & Equipment Technician also maintain the grounds, roads and training areas requiring snow removal in the winter months. May be responsible for operating heavy equipment, including loaders, excavators, dozers and heavy trucks equipped with plows and wings. 

 

Additionally, qualified candidates will have:

  • Knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and materials used in vehicle maintenance and repair work.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures required when performing in automotive and equipment repair
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to complete assignments correctly, and in a safe and timely manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors.

Environmental Factors

Duties are generally performed in Military Department garage, but some work outdoors in adverse weather conditions may be required. Incumbents will be required to operate a truck or other state vehicles to make emergency repairs or recoveries and require a valid Vermont driver's license. Enough physical strength is needed to perform duties which may require lifting weights of as much as 75 pounds. Exposure to noise, vehicles in operation, petroleum products and paint odors are probable. Some risk of injury is inherent in this position.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's degree or completion of a two-year technician program in automotive maintenance AND one (1) year or more of experience in servicing, maintaining and repairing automotive equipment.

 

OR

 

High school graduates with three (3) years or more experience in servicing, maintaining and repairing automotive, light and heavy equipment.

 

OR

 

ASE Certified in any light or heavy-duty mechanics and two (2) years' experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Class B CDL with Air Brakes.

Special Requirements

Must pass Federal Security Clearance and obtain a Military CAC (Common Access Card) for use on Federal computer systems.
