Overview

The Vermont Agency of Digital Services seeks a senior level technology manager to lead our Desktop/End User Device Support Team. This role involves collaboration with senior business leaders and technology professionals to enhance the operational excellence of our services. Key responsibilities include standardization, process improvement, and delivering IT services that meet the needs of the Vermont State Government and its constituents.  This position will oversee the tactical and operational aspects of the team and contribute to the strategic direction of the Shared Services Division.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to the Desktop/End User Device Support Team, supporting them in steady state and project-related work efforts.
  • Manage the performance, recruitment, retention, and career growth of the Desktop/End User Device Support Team staff.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable rules, policies, and regulations in the activities and outcomes of the Desktop/End User Device Support Team.
  • Oversee technology projects assigned to the Desktop/End User Device Support Team, including managing project teams and mitigating project risks to ensure timely and within-budget delivery.
  • Direct and supervise approximately 25 direct and indirect reports.
  • Collaborate with executive business leaders and technology professionals to understand the challenges facing State government organizations and develop strategies to improve IT service delivery relative to the scope of the Desktop/End User Device Support Team.
  • Support the strategic direction of the Agency of Digital Services and contribute to its overall success.

 
Candidates should have:

  • Proven experience in senior level technology management roles, with a track record of driving growth and quality improvement in IT services.
  • Understanding of State government organizations and the ability to leverage insights to enhance IT service delivery.
  • Excellent management skills, with the ability to mentor and develop a diverse team.
  • Expert-level knowledge of standardization and process improvement methodologies as they relate to desktop and end user device support.
  • Experience managing technology projects, including risk management and ensuring on-time and within-budget delivery.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with executive business leaders and technology professionals.
  • Familiarity with applicable rules, policies, and regulations in the public sector is preferred.
  • ITIL Certification (or equivalent) is highly desirable, but not required.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid work environment, with regular on-site work in Montpelier, Vermont, and the possibility of a mixed telework/onsite schedule. 
  • Some travel may be required for which private means of transportation should be available.

Environmental Factors

Most work is performed in a standard office setting and there is considerable interaction with high level managers and staff, as well as occasional work with other State agencies and interest groups. Work outside core work hours can be anticipated.

Minimum Qualifications

Eight (8) years or more experience in computer sciences, business administration, public administration, mathematics, technical operations management or providing supervision to staff within an IT environment.

 

OR

 

Four (4) years or more in an IT Manager role with a combination of experience in computer operations, information technology management/administration or supervisory responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree.
