Overview
The Agency of Digital Services (ADS) is seeking an experienced IT Business Architect to join ADS's Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO). The EPMO is a centralized division providing a range of services to partner Agencies across the State of Vermont Executive Branch. This position will predominately be focused on working with IT and business partners looking for new ways and opportunities to optimize business processes.
As a Business Architect, you will design and document business process modernizations and automations that align technology solutions with organizational strategies. You will collaborate with Enterprise Architects, IT teams, and business stakeholders to modernize enterprise-wide solutions, driving discussions on future-state business processes and system roadmaps. Your role will focus on solving complex business process challenges, ensuring that business architecture artifacts are consistently maintained, and seamlessly integrated with IT architecture.
Other examples of work include but are not limited to:
- Provide architectural oversight on the design and implementation of solutions that improve business efficiency and meet state objectives.
- Analyze and recommend business process improvement to be designed into the future state architecture.
- Ensure enterprise-wide technology solutions align with established business architecture principles.
- Engage with senior stakeholders to understand business priorities, challenges, and opportunities.
- Act as a liaison between business units and IT teams to ensure seamless communication and alignment.
- Define business architecture governance processes and ensure compliance with state and industry standards.
- Monitor and enforce adherence to architectural standards and best practices. Ensure alignment to established State of Vermont Enterprise Architecture Principles.
- Stay updated with the latest trends and innovations in business architecture, and enterprise technologies.
- Understand the evolving technology methodology in the industry and how it impacts architectural framework.
- Stay updated on business architecture tools, techniques and standards. Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance enterprise-wide technology platforms.
- Responsible for Core Business Architecture Artifacts such as: Capability Models, Future State Capability Models, Current Information Data Flow diagrams, Business Rules Models.
Our ideal candidate is self-motivated, able to work under pressure to meet deadlines, is very customer service oriented, and has excellent verbal and written communication skills. Candidate brings with them strong knowledge of business architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, Business Architect Guild, including BIZBOK) and enterprise-wide solution design. They will have the ability to assess, design, model and optimize complex business processes and systems.
Candidates will have familiarity with leading enterprise technologies, excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills and a demonstrated ability to facilitate informed decision making for senior leaders of the organization. Candidates will also demonstrate knowledge in implementing continuous improvement strategies and tools and the ability in assisting the business in defining strategic and tactical goals related to business processes, while also implementing/creating actionable plans to achieve them.

It is a Limited Service position, which is non-tenured and authorized for a specific period of time. Limited Service positions are established for specially funded projects or programs.

Duties are performed largely in a standard office setting. The role involves intensive interaction with departmental officials who may advocate strongly for their programs. Implementation of recommendations may be difficult because of competing interests and limited resources. Rapid response in the face of tight deadlines may be necessary. Evening and weekend duty, although rare, may be anticipated.
Minimum QualificationsEight (8) years or more of Business Analysis experience at a professional level.
Preferred QualificationsTOGAF - The Open Group Architecture Framework.
Business Architecture Guild - Certified Business Architect (CBA)
Bachelor's degree in business administration, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
CCBA/CBAP certification.
