Overview

The Vermont Transportation Board and Motor Vehicle Arbitration Board have an immediate opening for an exempt position that is responsible for assuring the efficient administration of the two quasi-judicial Boards in all their duties – judicial, regulatory, and policy making/advisory.

Description
  • Attends to all administrative matters for two quasi-judicial Boards.
  • Works with Board Chairs to schedule, plan and conduct site visits, Board meetings and hearings.
  • Provides analysis and helps draft Board decisions
  • Maintains Board dockets.
  • Board liaison to Legislature, state agencies, and municipal governments.
  • Communicates with and educates motor-vehicle consumers who inquire about the lemon law or have lemon-law related motor vehicle complaints.
  • Communicates with various motor-vehicle manufacturers when consumers file lemon-law complaints against them, as well as arbitrate these disputes.
Compensation

This is an exempt position that will work 32 hours per week, with a salary range of $72,000 to $90,000 and full benefits. Minimum Requirements

College degree and experience in public administration.

Preferred Qualifications

Law degree preferred.

The successful candidate will possess solid presentation, writing and communication skills as well as skills in meeting management, informing others, time management, persuasion, conflict resolution, people management, legal compliance, legislative acumen, understanding of statute, knowledge of state and municipal government, understanding of and ability to communicate with the media, and the understanding of quasi-judicial board functions and open meeting laws. Possession of a law degree with the identified experience is desirable but not mandatory. Does not have to be a member of the Vermont Bar. The successful candidate will possess the ability to work alone and be an organized self-starter who can work with little supervision.
