Overview

The Vermont Agency of Digital Services is seeking a highly skilled and experienced technology leader to join our team as the Deputy Director of Shared Services. In this role, you will work closely with executive business leaders and technology professionals to drive growth and quality improvement of the services provided by the Shared Services Division. Your focus will be on standardization, process improvement, and delivering IT services that meet the needs of Vermont State Government and its constituents. You will be responsible for the tactical and operational aspects of the division, as well as contributing to the strategic direction of the Agency of Digital Services.


Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to multiple technology teams, supporting them in steady state and project-related work efforts.
  • Manage the performance, recruitment, retention, and career growth of the Shared Services staff.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable rules, policies, and regulations in the activities and outcomes of the Shared Services Division.
  • Oversee technology projects within the division, including managing project teams and mitigating project risks to ensure timely and within-budget delivery.
  • Direct and supervise 5 direct reports and approximately 50 indirect reports.
  • Collaborate with executive business leaders and technology professionals to understand the challenges facing State government organizations and develop strategies to improve IT service delivery.
  • Support the strategic direction of the Agency of Digital Services and contribute to its overall success.

 

Candidates should have:

  • Proven experience in technology leadership roles, with a track record of driving growth and quality improvement in IT services.
  • Strong understanding of State government organizations and the ability to leverage insights to enhance IT service delivery.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to mentor and develop a diverse team.
  • Solid knowledge of standardization and process improvement methodologies.
  • Experience managing technology projects, including risk management and ensuring on-time and within-budget delivery.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with executive business leaders and technology professionals.
  • Familiarity with applicable rules, policies, and regulations in the public sector is preferred.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid work environment, with regular on-site work in Montpelier, Vermont, and the possibility of a mixed telework/onsite schedule. 
  • Some travel may be required for which private means of transportation should be available.

Environmental Factors

Most work is performed in a standard office setting and there is considerable interaction with high level managers and staff, as well as occasional work with other State agencies, interest groups, regional and/or national groups. Work outside of regular 7:45am - 4:30pm schedule can be anticipated.

Minimum Qualifications

Ten (10) years or more experience in computer sciences, business administration, public administration, mathematics, technical operations management or providing support to staff within an IT environment.

 

OR

 

Four (4) years or more in an IT Manager role with a combination of experience in computer operations, information technology management/administration or supervisory responsibilities.
