Role Overview: We are seeking an experienced Lead AI Architect to join our AI Innovation team, focusing on establishing technical vision and architectural standards for our AI initiatives. In this role, you will be responsible for making critical technical decisions that bridge the gap between proof-of-concepts and scalable production systems, while taking a hands-on approach to both architecture and technical execution. You will lead the development and execution of PoCs, evaluation of AI use cases, and work closely with Python developers, frontend developers, and business stakeholders to design robust AI solutions that support our cutting-edge applications in the financial services industry.
As part of our dynamic innovation environment, you will play a crucial role in researching and evaluating the latest AI frameworks and tools, defining architectural patterns for AI microservices, and providing technical leadership across our AI Innovation programme of work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define and drive the technical vision and architectural strategy for AI initiatives, ensuring alignment with business objectives and scalability requirements.
- Actively participate in and lead the development and execution of Proof of Concepts (PoCs) to validate AI technologies and assess their feasibility and value in real-world applications, including hands-on coding and model development.
- Working with business analysts, oversee the intake and evaluation of potential AI use cases from business and operational teams, assessing viability, complexity, and expected impact while prioritizing based on business needs and technical feasibility.
- Design comprehensive AI solution architectures that integrate seamlessly with existing enterprise systems and infrastructure, ensuring scalability, security, and alignment with industry best practices.
- Establish architectural standards and best practices for AI microservices, ensuring consistency across proof-of-concepts and production deployments.
- Work closely with MLOps/developers to define deployment pipelines that support the transition from experimental to production-ready AI systems.
- Stay at the forefront of AI research and industry developments, evaluating emerging tools, platforms, and methodologies to identify opportunities for innovation and competitive advantage.
- Act as a bridge between the AI Innovation team and broader enterprise technology teams, ensuring alignment with overall AI strategy and technology frameworks.
- Ensure architectural decisions support regulatory compliance and security requirements specific to the financial services industry, maintaining strict adherence to data privacy and governance standards.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, AI/ML, or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of experience in software, with at least 1 year focused on GenAI systems and solutions.
- Proven expertise in managing PoCs from conception through evaluation and execution, with hands-on technical involvement in coding and model development.
- Strong expertise in Python, Django, and RESTful API design.
- Experience with ML and GenAI frameworks and libraries.
- Strong background in LLMs, machine learning algorithms, and NLP technologies.
- Proficient in database design and development, including experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.
- Proven experience in technical leadership roles, with the ability to guide and influence technical decisions across multiple teams.
- Deep understanding of microservices architecture patterns and distributed systems design.
- Experience with key cloud platforms and services, for example AWS Bedrock, and deploying AI/ML models in production environments.
- Strong research skills with the ability to evaluate and adopt emerging AI technologies and frameworks.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in the financial services industry, particularly with investment management or fintech applications.
- Experience with enterprise AI governance, model management, and MLOps practices.
- Experience with RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) systems and vector databases.
- Experience with evaluation frameworks for LLMs and AI agents.
- Experience with data engineering best practices.
- Knowledge of API design patterns, particularly for AI services and real-time applications.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies in AI contexts.
- Familiarity with RPA and BPM platforms.
- Experience with Agile methodologies and tools such as JIRA and Confluence.
- Track record of contributions to the AI community.
