The ideal candidate will have experience applying systems engineering concepts to help convert technical objectives into real-world test configurations, review test plans for scientific process, coordinate radio frequency approval documents, maintain schedules for large projects, and fly quadcopters for counter Unmanned Aerial Systems efforts. The Systems Engineer will support the Air Force Material Command (AFMC) in Kirtland AFB, New Mexico. Travel will be required for this position. Responsibilities Support the planning, tracking, execution, and reporting of existing High Power Microwave (HPM) and High Energy Laser projects, including: Assisting in test site design; Managing test site configuration; Assessing and addressing project risks; Managing the project schedule. Increase the Air Force Research Laboratory's (AFRL) capacity to perform HPM experiments by working with AFRL headquarters and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on long term frequency clearances and Electronic Attack documents. Increase the ability to deploy HPM technology by working with Foreign Disclosure Office and Program Offices to provide frequency clearance information to be evaluated by foreign governments. Review test plans for High Energy Laser and HPM experiments. Assist/conduct in-person reviews of Standard Operating Procedures developed for laser and microwave experimentation facilities. Operate basic HPM and laser data acquisition systems owned by the government. Assist in the development of various certifications for Directed Energy Weapons (DEW) systems such as Directed Energy Weapon Initial Operational Employment Review and Approval Process (DEWRAP), Authorization to Proceed (ATO), and Interim Authority to Test (IATT) packages. Operate quadcopters to support field testing of counter unmanned aerial systems at Kirtland AFB and at other test sites such as White Sands Missile Range. Training and certification will be provided by the Air Force. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Active Secret security clearance or the ability to obtain a Secret clearance Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Systems Engineering are preferable) or other S&T areas such as Physics or Mathematics preferred Work Location and Travel Requirements: Ability to be on-site at Kirtland AFB or at an off-site 25-50% of the time Ability to travel to conduct site surveys/visits and to interface meetings at other government facilities Ability to travel to support spectrum management and FAA interface meetings Ability to travel to support DE field testing, including to OCONUS locations Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, and strong verbal and written communication skills Desired Qualifications: Active Top Secret clearance Experience and knowledge of field testing Experience and knowledge of spectrum management Knowledge of DEW systems (microwave and laser) Experience as a quadcopter pilot
