The Plate Maker role operates an auto-imposing platemaker in the conventional platemaking process and/or computer to plate output devices.   This position also mounts plates, coordinates other tooling, job information, job proofs and inks associated with job carts and is responsible to ensure plates produced and associated items meet quality and customer specifications.

 

Salary Range: $22.00 - $27.00/hourly

 

Compensation will be based on the skills and experiences you bring to Smyth.

 

Shift: Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 3:00pm

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Follow all established standard work to ensure accurate delivery of products to the pressroom
  • Create plates using conventional plate making equipment and/or digital files by utilizing a computer
  • Inspect output proofs for errors and/or defects to verify accuracy of information prior to going to press
  • Ensure timely delivery of proof(s) and plates to the press room to meet all production deadlines
  • Perform required maintenance and daily housekeeping on assigned equipment and surrounding areas.
  • Work closely with the pressroom to ensure production schedules are met
  • Prepare and maintain appropriate documentation for platemaking
  • Participate in cross-training with an open and positive attitude

 

The candidate must demonstrate:

  • Ability to think through the mechanical aspects of equipment operations and decision-making
  • Solid computer skills, including the ability to learn new computer systems
  • Clear communication and collaboration skills to effectively work with a diverse group of people and personalities
  • Thorough understanding of the label printing process
  • Availability to work overtime as needed.

 

Education, Skillsand Experience:

  • Required: High School degree or equivalent and/or two or more years of related flexographic platemaking experience
  • Required: Ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Required: Ability to read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions in the English language
  • Preferred: Manufacturing, print industry experience
  • Preferred: Experience with digital platemaking systems
  • A Plus: Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and ISO quality systems
