Director, Environmental Health & Safety (Onsite)

Position Summary:
This position will provide full-time environmental, health, and safety direction and leadership to support all operations of SIG SAUER, Inc. U.S. Facilities. Operations include small arms manufacturing, small arms tactical training and retail shop, ammunition manufacturing, optics and sight manufacturing, and ancillary locations. This position will be responsible for compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal environmental, health, safety, and radioactive material regulations applicable to the above operations. In addition, this position will be directly responsible for the administration of workers' compensation programs and insurance for all U.S. Facilities.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:
*Provide strategic leadership of SIG SAUER, Inc.'s (SIG) various environmental, health, and safety (EHS) initiatives to ensure SIG maintains and builds upon its reputation as a proactive industry leader.
*Assure that SIG continuously improves its EHS performance while maintaining compliance with all regulations.
*Chair or work with various internal and external teams/committees that help develop evolving EHS-related missions, policies, programs, and respective goals and objectives such as SIG's DOT Compliance Committee, Offsite Range Safety group, Implementation of software, and LMS.
*Serve as an agent of the company and representative/liaison to a variety of external entities including EHS federal, state, and local agencies, customers, suppliers, industry groups, military, law enforcement, and government entities.
*Develop environmental, health, and safety programs and policies applicable to small arms, ammunition manufacturing, and other SIG activities in accordance with EPA, OSHA, and various state and local environmental regulations.
*Provide technical expertise, leadership, and support for all of SIG's locations and departments on regulatory compliance issues in EHS.
*Mentor the EHS team of differing levels to ensure success by standardizing protocols, procedures, recordkeeping, etc.
*Provide the above insight on all new acquisitions, processes, and equipment prior to purchase or implementation.
*Periodically audit EHS programs and policies to ensure continued effectiveness and develop a system for tracking the effectiveness.
*Review data gathered during investigations of incidents, near misses, and property damage incidents to determine the root cause. Work with stakeholders to ensure corrective actions are applicable to eliminate the incident's root cause.
*Ensure collection of and maintain internal and regulatory reporting data.
*Serve as the primary contact for all regulatory agency inspections, audits, permitting, and reporting.
*Review and be familiar with all applicable EHS regulatory updates and changes.
*Ensure the administration of the workers' compensation program (WC), and provide the status of claims, loss experience trends, and program costs to upper management upon request.
*Ensure required injury and illness records are kept to provide data for loss runs. Track general industry, industry-specific, and competitor's injury/illness rates to gage performance. 
*Oversee Return to Work Program.
*Act as the company WC representative with legal counsel, WC insurers, third-party WC attorneys, and WC bureau on litigated cases.
*Ensure appropriate management of the in-house emergency medical response team.
*Act as corporate Radiation Safety Officer (RSO), ensuring compliance with Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and State Radioactive Materials programs regulations.
*Review State and NRC radioactive materials licenses and ensure that SIG maintains the licenses' requirements.
*Develop and request amendments to Sealed Source Device Registration and Radioactive Material Licenses.
*Ensure compliance with the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations pertaining to hazardous waste. Coordination of storage, transportation, and disposal of hazardous waste in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. Assess new avenues for waste reduction.
*Act as the Emergency Coordinator for fire, smoke, spill, and medical.  
*Act as the EHS point of contact for the Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) for all contracts.
*Coordinate annual facility-wide industrial hygiene monitoring to ensure contaminates of concern continue to be eliminated or reduced through engineering and administrative controls.  Evaluate the effectiveness of personal protective equipment (PPE).
*Ensure the proper management of the EHS training programs and training calendar, and ensure recordkeeping. 
*Track costs associated with the implementation of EHS. Continuously monitor the most current pricing to deliver the most cost-effective solutions.
*Implementation of SIG environmental management plan as required.
*Lead the collection of data to ensure the proper authoring of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) in accordance with OSHA requirements and those of customer countries.
*Champion the SIG Performance System (SPS) Safety Lean Key as part of the management team. Ensure all members of the EHS team participate.

 

Education and/or Experience:
*B.S. Environmental Health & Safety, B.S. Safety Engineering or equivalent, and 10 years of relevant experience or M.S. Environmental Health & Safety, M.S. Safety Engineering or equivalent, and 8 years of relevant experience.
Previous experience in explosive safety, radiation safety, laser safety, Agile, Oracle, DOD, and NFPA is a plus.

 Working Conditions:
*Able to lift up to 25 pounds.
*Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which is required in designated areas.
