In this role, your duties as a Maintenance Mechanic will be to ensure the proper maintenance and repair of the conveyor system to ensure uninterrupted offloading of international and domestic coal vessels at the pier. Duties will include direct interactions with international and domestic vessels and their crews and other Savage Team Members. You'll also be responsible for the maintenance and operation of the coal handling system, posting and completing work orders, and the basic maintenance of industrial mobile equipment. This role reports directly to the Site Supervisor / Operations Manager.

 

Here's a preview of what you'll be doing:

  • Tasks directly associated to the mooring of incoming vessels, and unmooring of vessels at the completion of coal discharge.
  • Compliance with all requirements of Marine Facility security.
  • Operating conveyor systems in accordance with all applicable safety practices
  • Working individually and collaboratively with the team
  • Completing daily safety inspection of equipment and facilities to ensure safe operations
  • Performing routine clean-up, housekeeping, and maintenance of facilities, equipment and coal handling system
  • Completing all training including regulatory compliance, safety, and all other designated training, as required. (occasional out of province training is possible).
  • Performing other tasks as needed and required.

 

This is what we need from you:

  • Basic understanding of the operation of industrial mobile equipment.
  • Willingness to properly wear all required Personal Protect Equipment as deemed necessary by labour standards and Savage.
  • Certified Industrial Mechanic / Mill Right / Journeyman / Apprentice.
    • Red Seal preferred, not required
    • 2-3 years of experience preferred
  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from supervisors(s), adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.
  • Clean shaven for the purposes of respirator and/or dust mask proper fit, and annual fit test.
  • MFSO (Marine Facility Security Officer) or PWSR (Person with Security Responsibilities) certification preferred.
  • Coal handling or aggregate handling conveyor experience preferred.
  • Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions with minimal supervision
  • Dependability in attendance required.
  • Ability to work holidays and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to work rotating shift schedule and overtime when needed.
  • Willingness to undertake equipment and facility maintenance task outside of the Pier.

Here are some of the minimum requirements for this role:

  • High school diploma, minimum 18 years of age.
  • Willing to work outside in any weather condition.
  • Must clear a criminal background check. 
  • Must be able to climb on and off the equipment, ascend and descend a ladder.
  • Must be able to work in an industrial environment containing coal dust, hazardous conditions, confined spaces, and hot/cold conditions.
  • Must be able to stand, kneel or crawl, and walk extensively throughout the day, sometimes on uneven terrain.
  • Must be able to frequently lift up to 50 lbs.
