SAIC is looking for a Technical Writer II in Crane, IN to support the U.S. Navy.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Developing high-quality documentation with minimal guidance that is coherent and easy to follow as well as complies with corresponding standard, style guide, and/or directive and meets the customers' and end users' needs. Documentation includes but is not limited to technical manuals, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs), curriculum, and other instructional and guidance documentation.
- Researching, collecting, analyzing, organizing, and preparing technical information and data.
- Editing technical documentation for format, accuracy, clarity, consistency, and adherence to government specifications.
- Performing desktop publishing support (e.g., format and layout) for technical documentation.
- Creating and manipulating illustrations, graphics, charts, diagrams, etc. to be included in documentation.
- Conducting photoshoots, editing and manipulating photographs, and selecting photographs for usage within documents, curriculum, and graphic design projects.
- Capturing video and editing video as well as audio and voiceover(s).
- Creating and maintaining xml schema (i.e., templates, DTDs, EDDs, read/write rules, structure applications, and conversion tables) within Adobe FrameMaker.
- Scheduling, attending, and participating in project meetings, review meetings, and validation/verification events.
- Creating and maintaining trackers for developing, planning, and scheduling purposes.
- Maintaining records.
- Performing clerical/administrative duties as assigned such as file management and recording and distributing meeting minutes.
- Interfacing with technical writers, multimedia personnel, customers, and possible government team.
Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and 3+ years of related experience. Additional experience accepted in lieu of degree.
- Must be able to obtain a Secret clearance; Interim Secret needed to start.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Capable of understanding, interpreting, and synthesizing engineering drawings, parts lists, technical information from engineering documentation, consultations with engineers, and other available sources.
- Proficient in desktop publishing with abilities to create and update tables, to create and manipulate graphics and drawings, to create and update flowcharts, and to format/layout text.
- Capable of developing and maintaining xml schema and development of xml files and scripts.
- Experience with DOD industry.
- Experience with MIL-STD-40051, NAVMC 1553, NAVEDTRA 130 -140, and GPO Style Manual.
- Proficient with Microsoft products to include PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
- Experience with Microsoft products to include Teams, Project, Excel, and Visio.
- Proficient with Adobe FrameMaker and Adobe Acrobat.
- Proficient with digital camera and accessories.
- Proficient with Adobe Photoshop.
- Experience with Adobe Illustrator.
- Experience with video editing software(s).
- Work potential overtime at approximately 20%.
- Support potential travel at approximately 10%.
DESIRED:
- Experience with ASD-STE100, Simplified Technical English (STE).
- Experience with provisioning data.
- Experience with configuration management.
- Experience with IADS.
