Join a winning team!! SAIC's Space and Intelligence Business Group is currently hiring to advance space capabilities supporting our Department of Defense (DOD) and Intelligence Community customers. Ten miles from the SAIC headquarters, our Chantilly, VA team supports systems development, targeting & intelligence analysis, systems engineering & integration and more.
This position is for a Mission Protection System Engineer for a large, multi-year contract supporting a cutting-edge and innovative space program. The Mission Protection System Engineer must possess, and have successfully demonstrated, satellite operations and engineering experience focused on mission protection. Requires excellent problem-solving, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills. The Mission Protection System Engineer will partner with multi-Agency and muti-Contractor team of system engineers and subject matter experts to effectively plan, organize, and execute all acquisition activities across the system life cycle.
The Mission Protection System Engineer provides leadership and technical support that may include, but are not limited to the following:
Role Responsibilities:
· Directly contribute to the Government's mission success through comprehensive analysis, thought leadership, and proactive action on mission protection activities
- Apply relevant space operations experience to conduct threat assessments and develop course of action; examine and develop tactics, techniques, and procedures to support operational objectives
- Assess space protection doctrine, strategies, and plans; provide vetted analysis and recommendations to improve space protection architectures and capabilities
- Assess mission and contribute to protection doctrine, strategies, plans, architectures, and associated requirements
- Monitor and evaluate war games and exercises (participate if requested); capture and assess lessons learned for best practice implementation to further improve space protection efforts
- Oversee integration of space protection functions and capabilities of delivered systems
- Assist in planning and analysis of system engineering efforts impacting operations
- Review documentation and represent Government, as required, in forums that support streamlined delivery of new capabilities delivered to meet operational needs
- Support Weapons and Tactics teams by assessing current and emerging threats
- Participate in collaborative forums across the mission protection enterprise
Qualifications
- Must possess an active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph
- Bachelors and 9 years of relevant experience; OR Masters and 7 years of relevant experience
- Government or Commercial experience.
- Knowledge of space protection topics related to satellite operations (e.g., launch, communications, navigation, maneuvers, etc.) as well as threat/risk assessments and vulnerability analysis
- Knowledge of orbital mechanics and utility of different orbits
- Expert at defining solutions for broad, abstract topics; succinctly captures issues for customer and provides analysis and recommendations
- Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic, and team environment with no supervision
- Polished communicator (written and verbal) with highly effective interpersonal skills and personal judgement
Desired Qualifications:
- STEM or intelligence-related degree
- Real-time operations experience as a spacecraft or ground systems operator
- Experience with Situational Awareness tools such as STK
- Working knowledge of joint operations planning processes
- Experience with intelligence operations, analysis, or targeting
- Ability to thrive in a face paced and dynamic environment
- Willingness to communicate assessments of complex issues to Program and Mission teams
