JOB DESCRIPTION: 

SAIC is seeking a Scientific Software Engineer to support The Ocean Biology Processing Group at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center.

The Ocean Biology Processing Group (http://oceancolor.gsfc.nasa.gov) at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center is a world leader in satellite-based remote sensing of the ocean. This position will support scientific software development for current and future satellite radiometers supported by the OBPG. 

Duties include:

  • Implementation of processing algorithms in science software
  • Evaluation and validation of code performance and adherence to coding standards
  • Code testing and verification using static and dynamic analysis tools
  • Code maintenance and configuration management control

Qualifications

Required Skills:    Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the development of scientific data processing software using C or C++ in a UNIX/Linux environment. Strong verbal and written communications skills.  The successful candidate must also be eligible for unescorted access to NASA facilities.

Desired Skills:    Experience with scientific software development for satellite remote sensing and evaluation of geophysical products retrieved from satellite data.  Experience with Python, Fortran, Git.

Education:    Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or Physical Science (postgraduate education will be considered for professional experience).
