SAIC is looking for an experienced and highly motivated engineer to perform dynamics and structural independent verification and validation of launch service contractor (LSC) solutions. At the SAIC San Bernardino engineering center we are multi-discipline team of propulsion, structures, fluid mechanics, software, controls, and avionics engineers. We support the Rocket System Launch Program (RSLP) which is a United States Air Force program that provides quick access to space to other government agencies. We work with various launch vehicle contractors throughout the country and perform independent verification and validation (IV&V) of the launch vehicle designs. In addition to RSLP IV&V, the center also leads the force development evaluation effort of an existing Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) system and also supports the future ICBM program Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD).
Roles and Responsibilities (including some or all of the following):
- Provide test support for dynamic development, qualification, acceptance, and aging surveillance tests, including review of test plans/procedures, witnessing testing, and assessing results/reports
- Perform analytical assessments of dynamic environments including shock, vibration, and acoustics of rocket motors and launch vehicles
- Develop Power Spectral Density and Shock Response Spectra at locations throughout the launch vehicle or rocket motor
- Create structural dynamic models
- Perform Finite Element analyses, including developing models, meshes, running simulations, and interpreting results
- Support design reviews and milestones as necessary
- Report analysis progress, products, and recommendations to technical staff and management, and to the customers and its contractors in technical interchanges, briefings, and reports
- Prepare presentations, reports, and other contract deliverables related to analyses performed
- Present results of analyses to internal, independent review team
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or applied mathematics or applied physics and 5+ years of related experience
- Ability to obtain DoD Secret Security Clearance
- Experience assessing and deriving dynamic environments, preferably in launch or missile applications
- Proficiency with MATLAB (or Python) and MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Must have demonstrated presentation skills and experience interfacing with Air Force customer
- Position requires a proactive, self-starting, independent, flexible engineer with excellent interpersonal skills capable of working on an inter-disciplinary team
Preferred Qualifications:
- Current DoD Secret (or higher) Security Clearance
- Familiarity with Power Spectral Density and Shock Response Spectra
- Experience and proficiency with NASTRAN, Abaqus, FEMAP, and Hyperworks
Target salary range: $80,001 - $120,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
