Position Summary
We are currently seeking a motivated, career and customer-oriented Data Scientist (Senior) to join our team to begin an exciting and challenging career in Ashburn, VA.
Job Responsibilities
- Collect and analyze large data sets from complex data models including relational databases
- Define acceptance criteria including setting algorithm thresholds based on statistical analysis
- Develop and identify approaches for predictive models
- Define and set standards for performing data analysis
- Manage a small team of data engineers responsible for performing data mining and analysis
- Interface with clients, project management, stake holders, and development teams
- Consolidate information into reports
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Computational Statistics, or related field
- 9+ years of experience in data science techniques – including data analysis, statistical analysis, programming, modeling and design, machine learning, and deep learning
- Strong programming skills including SQL, Python, PyTorch, other related languages, and data mining tools
- Strong experience with Python web frameworks (e.g. FastAPI, Django, Flask)
- Solid understanding of modern Python 3.8+ programming
- Familiarity with Python testing frameworks (e.g. pytest, unittest)
- Strong experience in AWS cloud
- Strong background in math and statistics
- Advanced learning techniques - information retrieval, modeling, and entity resolution
- Knowledge of a variety of data formats such as XML, JSON, and various image formats
- Strong organization and time management skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills – candidate must have ability to interface with client upper management staff, stake holders, as well as project managers and development teams
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment
Desired Skills and Experience
- 3+ years of leadership experience
- Knowledge working with Unix/Linux
- Docker
- Kubernetes
- Oracle/Postgres DB
- Experience working with DHS, Customs and Border Protection, or travel related data
- Experience working with various forms of biometric algorithms, facial recognition preferred
- Familiarity with NIST standards
- Master's Degree or higher in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Computational Statistics, or related field
Customer Requirements
- Clearance – Ability to obtain and hold a public trust position and favorable suitability based on a CBP Background Investigation
- Citizenship – Must be a US Citizen
- Location – Location – On-site in Ashburn, VA 5 days per week for the first year of employment. All candidates must be within the GWA/commutable area.
