SAIC is currently seeking to hire a Communications Associate to support the Army Unmanned Systems (UAS) simulations for the Joint Technology Center/Systems Integration Laboratory (JSIL) located in Huntsville/Redstone Arsenal, AL.   

This role will work directly with software development and test teams to update user manuals, quick start guides, and supplemental documents, requiring the candidate to communicate with various teams and troubleshoot the JSIL's developed software to ensure proper documentation. This candidate will be in the technical documentation and user experience team, which may lead to tasks supporting the UX lead.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Ability to maintain multiple documents from draft stage to delivery to customer
  • Contribute to deliverable and non-deliverable project documentation
  • Adhere to style guide materials and ensure all documentation maintains one ‘voice'
  • Participate in daily scrum activities, including sprint planning, review, and demo activities
  • Organize, schedule, and conduct peer reviews of documentation using Microsoft Azure DevOps and Adobe PDFs
  • Learn and operate JSIL software applications in order to properly document new changes
  • May be required to assist other technical writers with other duties as requested, directed, or assigned by team lead
  • May be required to assist the User Experience team members with graphic design, modeling, and 3D printing tasks.
 

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelor's degree and zero (0) years of experience are required; four (4) years of experience are accepted in lieu of a degree.

Required Clearance:

  • An Interim Secret Clearance must be obtained to begin employment; a Secret Security Clearance must be obtained to maintain employment.

Required Skills:

  • Experience with document revisions and version control

  • Familiar with documentation peer review process

  • Experience receiving, maintaining, approving, submitting, and distributing a wide range of technical documents

  • Experience communicating with subject matter experts and translating “tech” to customer facing

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with or familiarization with software development tools

  • Experience with or knowledge of modern software design and methodologies (design patterns, development lifecycle, etc.)

  • Understanding the user experience of graphics within documentation, including manuals, posters, and brochures

  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

  • Ability to test and troubleshoot software to better understand the usability

  • Ability to handle several projects at once with minimal supervision

  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Adobe InDesign, and other Adobe CC products

  • Experience with Microsoft Azure DevOps

  • Experience with Markdown, HTML, and XML

  • Knowledge of Agile structure
