Description
Description
SAIC is seeking a GIS Administration Cloud Engineer to support federal geospatial cloud-hosting clients in AWS, delivering high-availability ArcGIS Enterprise platforms across Windows, Linux, and Kubernetes. You will provide technical leadership and hands-on administration of ArcGIS Enterprise systems (installation, patching/upgrading, security) and design, automate, and maintain cloud infrastructure using IaC and CI/CD. The role suits a highly motivated engineer comfortable in a ticket-driven, service-oriented environment, collaborating with a distributed team and managing multiple priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer, configure, and optimize ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise on Windows, Linux, and Kubernetes in cloud-hosted environments.
- Support and enhance ArcGIS Enterprise architectures on EC2 and containerized (Kubernetes) deployments.
- Work in a ticket-driven support model (e.g., Jira), handling requests, incidents, and changes for federal geospatial hosting customers.
- Serve as technical lead for cloud infrastructure design, deployment, and maintenance (AWS, Azure, or other major clouds) for resilient, scalable GIS workloads.
- Implement and maintain IaC solutions (e.g., Terraform/Terragrunt) for automated provisioning and configuration of GIS and supporting components.
- Design, implement, and support CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI) for ArcGIS Enterprise configurations, custom extensions, and infrastructure.
- Support and enhance ArcGIS for Kubernetes deployments, including cluster configuration, scaling, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with cloud and security teams to meet federal security and compliance requirements.
- Troubleshoot complex issues across application, OS, network, and cloud layers; perform root cause analysis and long-term remediation.
- Create and maintain documentation (architectures, SOPs, runbooks, configuration baselines).
- Work with internal and client stakeholders to gather requirements, propose solutions, and implement changes under formal change management.
- Participate in on-call or after-hours maintenance windows as required.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, GIS, Engineering, or related field; or 4 additional years of related experience in lieu of degree.
- 5+ years administering ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise in production, including: ArcGIS Server, Portal for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Data Store, and related components.
- Administration on both Windows and Linux.
- 3+ years as a Cloud Engineer with at least one major provider (AWS, Azure, GCP), including: Provisioning and managing compute, storage, and network resources.
- Implementing monitoring, logging, and backup for cloud-hosted workloads.
- Demonstrated familiarity with IaC (e.g., Terraform, Terragrunt, CloudFormation, ARM) and ability to design and maintain production IaC solutions.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, Azure DevOps), including integration of source control, testing, and deployment.
- 2+ years with Kubernetes (preferably production), including: Cluster configuration, management, and troubleshooting.
- Deploying and managing containerized applications.
- Experience in ticket-based support environments (e.g., Jira, ServiceNow) managing incidents, service requests, and changes.
- Strong understanding of network fundamentals (DNS, load balancing, firewalls, VPCs, routing) for cloud-hosted applications and ArcGIS Enterprise.
- Ability to work independently, self-directed, managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Highly Preferred Skills and Experience
- ESRI ArcGIS for Kubernetes:
- Hands-on deployment, administration, and troubleshooting of ArcGIS Enterprise on Kubernetes.

- Experience with module design, state management, and integrating IaC with CI/CD.
- GitHub/GitLab:
- Git workflows (branching, pull requests, code reviews).
- Implementing GitHub Actions or GitLab CI for infrastructure and application deployments.
- Cloud networking: Designing/supporting AWS architectures, private/public subnets, security groups/NSGs, peering, and performance optimizations.
- GIS enterprise architecture: Designing scalable, highly available ArcGIS Enterprise for federal or large enterprises.
- Integrating ArcGIS Enterprise with external identity providers, databases, and application stacks.
- Jira ticketing: Experience with incident, change, and problem management.
