We are searching for an organized and detail-oriented Benefits Specialist to join our team! As a Benefits Specialist, you will be responsible for assisting with the administration of all benefits and retirement programs, including medical/prescription, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, tuition reimbursement and 401(k) plan.  This role will also assist with confirming eligibility/tracking leaves of absences (LOA).

This position is located in Livonia, MI and requires being onsite daily. There may be an opportunity for a hybrid arrangement once fully trained. 

As a Benefits Specialist, you will:

  • Perform benefit administration activities including, but not limited to: quality checks of benefits-related data, life status changes, responds to inquiries on plan coverage, benefits and enrollment, preparation of invoices, weekly COBRA mailing/payments, benefit communication materials, update metrics, and review and process tuition reimbursement paperwork and administer relocation benefits. 
  • Process and administer all leave of absence requests and disability paperwork for medical, personal, disability and FMLA, including updating short-term disability payment information for Payroll.
  • Manage HR general e-mail account, follow-up and providing direction to affected employees on policies and procedures.
  • Enter new hires in HRIS for cross-training support. Assist HR team members in clerical assignments, HR-related documents, etc.
  • Process enrollments, life events, changes, and terminations for health and 401k plan deductions. Follows-up for required new hire benefit documentation.
  • Conduct New Hire Orientation (NHO), present at benefit education sessions, draft monthly wellness newsletter, assist with creating benefit presentations, process 401k weekly changes, attend biweekly benefits conference calls. 
  • Complete annual image and tools testing of HRIS. 
  • Develop, coordinate, and recommend department process and workflow improvements.
  • Other responsibilities and special projects as assigned.

To be considered as a Benefits Specialist, you will need:

  • Bachelor's degree in HR or related field or equivalent
  • Minimum of three years' experience in HR or benefits administration
  • Knowledge of employee benefits and applicable laws
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Good attention to detail, organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work as a team member
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite or similar software

A successful candidate may also have:

  • Experience with 401k administration
  • SHRM- or HRCI certified professional
