1 Shift: First Shift (United States of America) Summary: Supports clinical and scientific research throughout the organization; assists with or conducts experiments and procedures under the direction of a supervisor; presents findings including preliminary interpretation for further review; inputs clinical and research information into the designated database system; conducts routine maintenance of equipment and machinery as needed. Performs technical laboratory work in the laboratory of Dr. Xuhang Liu.The Liu lab at the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center (https://www.roswellpark.org/xuhang-liu) is seeking highly-motivated research technologists with interests in RNA and/or cancer biology to join our efforts in fighting cancer. We employ a multidisciplinary approach that combines classical biochemistry, in vivo mouse models, in vitro patient-derived organoids (PDOs), cutting-edge multi-omics techniques, and advanced bioinformatic analyses to identify key post-transcriptional mechanisms that govern cancer progression and metastasis. We aim to develop innovative therapeutic strategies¬¬, in particular RNA therapeutics, to translate these mechanistic insights into the clinic.
This position will allow the selected candidate to learn cutting-edge experimental and bioinformatic techniques essential for genomics and cancer research and have work published in high-impact journals. In addition, regular career development meetings with the PI will also be held to help the selected candidate transition to more advanced academic or industrial positions.
Dr. Liu completed his postdoctoral fellowship in the Laboratory of Systems Cancer Biology at the Rockefeller University, where he and his colleagues employed a systems cancer biology approach to discover the critical role of tRNA-derived RNA fragments (tRFs), a novel class of small RNAs, in regulating gene expression and breast cancer metastasis (Goodarzi, Liu, et. al., 2015 Cell; Liu, et. al., 2022 Mol Cell). Prior to that, Dr. Liu earned a Ph.D. in biology from the University of Pennsylvania, where he combined biochemistry and genomics to study mechanisms that control microRNA biogenesis (Liu, et. al., 2012 Mol Cell; Liu, et. al., 2014 Mol Cell).
Salary range for this position is $46,649 - $59,159 which includes a comprehensive benefits package. Qualifications: Required Education and Experience
1. Master's degree in a clinical or scientific discipline; or
2. Bachelor's degree in a clinical or scientific discipline and the equivalent of one (1) year of full-time experience in a laboratory setting.
NOTE:
Required degrees must have been granted by an accredited college or university or one recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center as following acceptable educational practices.
Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate should be highly-motivated, have a Master's degree or a Bachelor's degree in a biomedical discipline and the equivalent of at least one year of full-time experience working in a laboratory setting outside of course requirement. The preferred candidate should also have extensive experience with basic molecular and cell biology techniques (e.g. molecular cloning and mammalian cell culture). Moreover, the preferred candidate should have good organizational and note-taking skills, effective verbal and written communication, flexibility to occasionally work outside of established working hours, and be a good team player. The preferred candidate should also have experience with data analysis and preparation of scientific reports, have good attention to detail and be outcome-oriented. Experience with high-throughput sequencing techniques (e.g. RNA-Seq), protein expression and purification, biochemical assays, mouse tumor models, and/or bioinformatic analysis is desirable but not required.
