WHAT YOU WILL DO:

The Chemical Purchasing Manager manages all procurement related activities for Safe Foods Chemical Innovations, including third party contract manufacturers and tollers. Key responsibilities of this position will include planning and overseeing the work of the Buyers and Purchasing Agents; evaluating and ensuring quality, price, and reliability of suppliers; negotiating supplier contracts and agreements; and evaluating and training staff. This position will have a direct involvement with manufacturing and material requirements to ensure a consistent flow of materials to support production. They will also coordinate with fellow managers to monitor inventory and determine supply needs.

  • Establish and maintain measurable performance metrics for all levels of procurement activities to include but not limited to cost reductions, supplier performance, supplier quality, internal order placement performance, buyer activity levels, financial (AP) performance, and material shortage elimination.
  • Report to management the measurable status of progress and corrective actions as it pertains to supplier performance.
  • Ensure performance improvement and recovery plans are developed, issued, tracked, and reported on as required for supply base management and improvement
  • Negotiate and execute purchase orders or vendor contracts as needed for critical business needs.
  • Manage material flow to ensure inventory is maintained to the optimum level for production schedules and on time customer deliveries while keeping inventory volumes at the appropriate levels.
  • Strategically develop and implement commodity/supply chain strategies covering all materials, services, and supplier processes to deliver maximum value, leverage, and standardization.
  • Manage all activities that develop relationships with suppliers.
  • Develop an overall vendor base which creates and sustains a competitive advantage, utilizing global market opportunities, leveraging spend, and leveraging of technologies.
  • Manage materials savings initiatives in line with profit plan and overall business objectives.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned .

YOUR MUST HAVES:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Active driver's license.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Equivalent (“GED”).
  • Purchasing experience in the chemical industry.
  • Willingness to travel 10-12 times annually (within the US).
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong people management skills.

WHAT WE PREFER YOU HAVE:

  • 5+ years of experience in a strategic procurement position specific to chemicals and raw materials. This experience should include the following: (i) selecting and qualifying chemical vendors, (ii) purchasing chemicals and negotiating contract terms and conditions with chemical vendors/suppliers, (iii) managing or supervising chemical buyers, (iv) negotiating conflict resolution.
  • Ability to work remotely with minimal supervision..
  • Knowledge of chemicals and chemical applications.
  • General knowledge of regulatory rules and guidelines for chemicals (EPA, FDA, etc.).
  • 3+ years of experience working with 3rd party contract manufacturers/tollers.

This position is part of our hybrid model - split time between your home office and the North Little Rock, AR office.
