We Are Hiring: Genetics Counselor Assistant - Medical Oncology - .8FTE, Benefits Eligible 

 

Outpatient medical oncology is a busy department with patients being seen in clinic by a provider, either a Medical Oncologist or Nurse Practitioner. In addition we provide infusion services which may include chemotherapy, blood transfusions, or other IV therapies. Our clinic staff is made up of Nationally Certified Oncology RN's, Oncology Nurse Navigators, LPN's and secretarial staff to take care of patient needs.

Schedule Details: Monday through Friday 8-1630. 

 

What You Will Do:

As a Genetic Counselor Assistant, you'll support our oncology genetics team in helping patients understand their cancer risk through detailed genetic evaluations. You'll play a key role in prepping for appointments, gathering patient and family history, and creating pedigrees and risk assessments using genetic software tools like BRCAPro and IBIS. You'll also help facilitate genetic testing, coordinate appointments, manage referrals, and support insurance pre-authorizations.

This role blends clinical insight with administrative coordination, and you'll collaborate with providers across ProHealth Care and UW Health. You'll also help track program outcomes, participate in multidisciplinary conferences, and contribute to growing our cancer genetic counseling program.

 

What You Will Need:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Interest or background in cancer genetics
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced setting
  • Comfort with medical terminology and working with electronic health records
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Experience with data entry or patient tracking is a plus
  • Previous exposure to risk assessment models or genetic counseling processes is helpful
