Job Summary

Performs all duties necessary to operate and maintain boilers and other auxiliary equipment necessary for producing steam for heat and sterilization and chillers for space and equipment cooling for the hospital and associated campus buildings. Accountabilities

* Performs preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and records appropriately.  25%

* Operates and maintains boilers.  Observes and takes appropriate action for safe operation.  Operates and maintains

   boilers.  Observes and takes appropriate action for safe operation.  20%

* Tests boiler and cooling tower water samples; assigns proper chemical treatment.  5%

* Starts and stops chillers as load demands.  10%

* Performs scheduled tests to comply with JCAHO, DHEC and other standards.   5%

* Maintains Energy Center by cleaning and painting.  10%

* Starts, stops and switches over boilers as appropriate.  10%

* Cleans and repairs boilers, blow tubes, and discharges sediment; regulates feed water and condensate pumps.  10%

* Available for call back for emergency situations.  Achieves 90% attendance at required training meetings.  Works

   with blueprints and drawings.   5%

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive. Minimum Education

High School diploma or equivalent 

Minimum Experience

3 years- Boiler operator experience

Other Required Experience

Refrigeration certification- Preferred
