Job Summary
Assists the Registered Nurse in providing patient care based on the individualized plan of care for a patient. As delegated, performs basic nursing activities. Conducts data collection, monitors and documents patient status. Ensures confidentiality of all patient information. Utilizes safe patient handling at all times. Informs RN of activities performed, observations of patients and changes in patient status. Provides a neat and clean patient environment.Accountabilities
Assists patients with activities of daily living and hygiene. Turns and repositions patients alone or with assistance. May transport patients and assist with walking. Assisting adult/pediatric patients with toileting needs in relation to their age including emptying established colostomy bags and urinary catheter removal. Assists with fall prevention interventions and patient restraints as delegated. Removing and reapplying anti-emboli hose or compression devices. 50%
Assists with admission of patients to the unit by preparing room, greeting, and orienting patient and/or family to the unit (bed, call light, phone, TV). 10%
Taking and recording vital signs accurately and with repeating questionable values. 10%
Preparing patients for meals and assisting in feeding and providing snacks and supplements. 10%
Collecting urine, stool, and sputum specimens. Delivering specimens to appropriate department as requested. 5%
Completing documentation in EMR in accurate and timely manner. 5%
Maintaining cleanliness and order of hospital room, utility room, diet kitchen, hallways, and alcoves. Disposes of excess linen and keeps linen emptied. 5%
Performs point of care testing as trained and delegated by RN. Reports lab values to RN. 5%
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities
This is a non-management job that report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.
Minimum Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent OR post high school diploma / highest degree earned; and
Completion of a nursing assistant or patient care tech program
Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses
CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant
In Lieu Of The Minimum Requirements Listed Above
In lieu of school verification of a nursing assistant training course, will accept current or former South Carolina CN A certification as proof of completed state required training at time of hire.
Other Required Skills and Experience
Graduate of a Nursing Assistant Training Program preferred
