Job Summary

The Senior dispatcher performs daily oversight and work coordination within the Ambulance Services Communications Department. This position is responsible for maintaining operational fluidity and readiness for EMS Dispatch fleet management. This includes, at the direction of - or in conjunction with the department Supervisor, monitoring and executing day-to-day operations including all aspects of call taking/dispatcher roles, limited oversight of employees (without disciplinary authority), decision-making, coordination, and QA/QI review and reporting. The employee must be knowledgeable and compliant with Prisma Health's values of compassion, dignity, excellence, integrity, and teamwork.

Accountabilities

  • Monitor and coordinate all aspects of departmental functions within the Dispatch Center - 70%

  • Work directly with interdepartmental employees to facilitate efficient patient movement. – 5%

  • Perform scheduled Quality Assurance reviews and any other assigned quality initiatives - 10%

  • Make sound decisions on behalf of departmental operations based on guidelines, policies, and practices that are outlined by Leadership when required – 10%

  • Operate as a call taker or dispatcher as needed for fill in for open, un-filled positions. – 5%

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • 2 years - EMD Certified, PST Certified

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses

Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) :

  • APCO, Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD)

  • APCO, Public Safety Telecommunicator (PST)

Knowledge, Skills or Abilities

  • Knowledge of office equipment (fax/copier)

  • Basic Computer Skills

  • Proficient computer skills in word processing and spreadsheets

  • Proficient in Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Knowledge of CAD system user operations

  • Data Entry Skills

  • Personnel Management - preferred

  • Color Vision - preferred
