Position Summary:
The Mobile Technician II at Penske will generally assist in the repair and diagnosis of major components or will remove and replace these components under the supervision of the Asset Supervisor (PFM). The technician is expected to perform preventive maintenance (PM) and to diagnose and repair the following with little or no supervision: clutches, power take-offs (PTOs), electrical systems, hydraulic and air brake systems, HVAC systems, as well as instruments and gauges.
This position is managed by our corporate team, and the Mobile Technician II will not be working on equipment located at a Penske branch.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Demonstrate competence in the repair and diagnosis of the following: engines (gas and diesel); drivetrain including differentials, transmissions, clutches, drive shafts, PTOs, and wheel hubs; electrical systems including starters and alternators; HVAC; steering; electronic components (ECM, ECU, sensors, etc.); engine-related parts (turbos, fan clutches, injectors, cooling systems, etc.); brake systems including ABS; and suspension systems (spring or air).
• Perform mechanical and cosmetic reconditioning of used vehicles for resale or trade-in, as well as the preparation of new vehicles prior to delivery.
• Identify needed parts for repairs and order them as necessary.
• Perform all levels of preventive maintenance services.
• Work independently, efficiently, and within required timelines.
• Identify warranty-eligible repairs and document them in work orders.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area in accordance with environmental regulations at the customer site.
• Comply with Penske and customer work requirements at all times.
• Conduct road tests to diagnose issues or confirm repairs.
• Use hand tools (screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, precision instruments) and power tools (impact wrenches, welding equipment, jacks, hoists, etc.).
• Inspect brake, steering, wheel bearing, and other critical systems to ensure proper functioning.
• Perform basic maintenance (oil changes, battery checks, lubrication, etc.).
• Adjust or replace brakes, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment.
• Diagnose faults using specialized instruments (laptops, engine analyzers, chassis diagrams, gauges, etc.).
• Check and adjust safety devices, guards, loose bolts, and other safety elements.
• Measure and verify part dimensions and clearances to ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications.
• Specialize in major component repair and troubleshooting (e.g., engines, transmissions, differentials), including replacement of complete assemblies, turbochargers, fuel system components, etc.
• Order, receive, bill parts, and efficiently manage inventory (including consignment parts) using cycle counts.
• Act as the primary point of contact for the customer's daily needs and escalate issues to the operations or sales team as needed.
• Manage tire and wheel conditions through regular inspections and effective inventory control.
• Comply with Penske's health and safety practices at all times.
• Perform any other duties or projects assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications:
• 2–4 years of hands-on experience in tractor-trailer (truck and semi-trailer) maintenance required.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Vocational/technical training or relevant certification (an asset).
• Specialized training in vehicle component repair and replacement (an asset).
• Proficiency in using workshop tools required.
• Must have a clean driving record and a valid Class 5 driver's license.
• Ability to read road maps.
• Ability to safely and professionally drive a non-articulated vehicle up to 26,000 lbs.
• Ability to use navigation tools (e.g., Waze).
• Self-sufficiency and the ability to work with minimal direct supervision.
• Basic computer skills required for maintenance system data entry.
• Ability to work in non-climate-controlled environments.
• Must understand and comply with Penske's policies, instructions, rules, regulations, or any other directives from management.
• Must be able to perform all tasks in compliance with DOT, OSHA, and all Penske safety and maintenance policies, including appropriate selection and use of tools, PPE, machine safeguards, and safety best practices.
• Regular, predictable, full-time attendance is an essential function of this job.
Availability:
Must be willing to travel as needed, work required shifts, work at the designated location, complete a Penske employment application, undergo a background check (including past employment, education, and criminal record), and pass a drug screening test.

• The employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs (23 kg) and occasionally up to 100 lbs (45 kg).
