Summary:
Under direct supervision of the Managing Editor, performs a variety of duties and tasks to assist in the publication of the Kalihwisaks newspaper according to established policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
* Assist in the strategy, development and coordination of publication content.
* Take photos at requested community events.* Collect information about newsworthy events, conduct interviews, research the web and social media, observation, various emails, and phone calls. Follow up with various departments when submitted information is incomplete, marketing questions or any media issues that don't meet print standards.
* Write stories for publication according to prescribed style and format standards; coordinate news stories with news releases as needed.
* Assist with graphic design for tribal marketing pieces utilizing Adobe Creative Cloud programs.
* Assist with layout design, verification of information submitted, quality photos, headlines and cut lines.
* Attend a variety of meetings including staff, Bi-Weekly Business Committee, General Tribal Council and special meetings as needed or required.
* Utilizing best practices for managing both physical and digital incoming files.
* Assist with the development and standards of the Kali digital archives, including past issues and photos.
* Utilize web development and content management tools to keep on-line media up to date.
* Develop and refine workflow practices regarding; the efficient production of Oneida media to ensure accuracy, quality that while meeting scheduled deadlines.

* Skill in operating various word-processing, spreadsheets, and database software programs including Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and Creative Suites in a Windows or Mac environment.

* Bachelors Degree in Art/Graphic Design, Marketing, Communication or an Associate Degree in Media & Marketing related fields; writing communications and journalism stories

Experience:
Essential:
* One (1) year experience in Media, Marketing, Journalism and/or Writing communications
Nonessential:
* Experience working with Adobe creative suite or similar programs
* Word press and social media posting.

Must be willing and able to obtain additional related education and training.
Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and adhere to the Nation Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Policy.
A Tuberculosis (TB) Screening and/or a 2 step TB Skin Test is required within thirty (30) days of employment.
Must provide a copy of diploma/degree, license, or certification upon employment.
