Summary:

Develop and facilitate the ropes course, canoe, kayak and other Experiential and Adventure programs that are Therapeutic, Educational, Corporate and Leadership based. Work a flexible schedule to include evenings and weekends based upon scheduling needs.


Responsibilities:

* Develop curriculum to help clients reach goals and objectives, individualizing programming as needed
* Teach and facilitate group curriculum as scheduled. This includes Therapeutic, Educational, and Corporate clients
* Effectively interview, screen and assess clients/groups behavioral health needs utilizing proper intake strategies
* Teach curriculum incorporating goals, objectives and Group Dynamic Principles
* Demonstrate professionalism in instruction and management of Adventure and Experiential teaching per policy and procedures
* Be an active team member in developing department goals and objectives
* Perform all technical and mechanical aspects of Adventure Program
* Maintain records, document program results, prepare reports, correspondence, narratives, statistical reports, and other Nation documents
* Maintain equipment to include inspecting, repairing and replacing as required per industry and department standards
* Provide observation, direction, and correction as needed, to trained helpers in ropes course belaying, paddle helpers, lifeguards and other Nation units assisting in experiential programming. Provide observation, direction, and correction as needed to student interns and sub relief staff during programming. Intervene and report any safety concerns to manager
* Monitor progress of clients/groups to evaluate success of interventions and adapt programs as needed
* Evaluate and incorporate Educational vs Therapeutic interventions as appropriate. Provide interventions/referrals as needed for clients in crisis
* Enforce all rules and regulations as established by the Experiential and Adventure Department pertaining to program and participants for physical and emotional safety of clients and staff
* Teach/guide and transport youth to events as program design my dictate
* Lock up and secure the facility at closing
* Attend all mandatory in-service
* Monitor customer satisfaction through a Continuous Improvement Process and Team Facilitation
* Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required
* Maintain strict departmental security, confidentiality, and quality to meet professional standards of the department

Skills:

Essential:
* Operating various word-processing, spreadsheets, and database software programs in a Windows environment
* Group dynamics, psychosocial behavioral methodology, team dynamics, and motivational technique for a variety of clientele both youth and adults
* Experiential safety standards
* Inform and communicate verbally and in writing in diverse and challenging situations with the ability to process information effectively, identify and define problems and make objective decisions
* Be a lead facilitator to belay and paddle helpers, other interns/students, volunteers, and other Tribal department co-facilitators in programming in order to maintain safety standards
* Work with youth, adults, families, and the community involved in the adventure and experiential programs
* Ability to be dependable, mature, possess initiative, self motivated, and able to work with minimal supervision
* Knowledge of Ropes Course Construction and Maintenance
* Knowledge and experience in planning and leading adventure trips in areas of canoeing, rock climbing, caving, backpacking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and camping

Education Requirement - Or A Closely Related Field:

Essential:
* Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy
Nonessential:
* A Combination of Experience and Education May Be Considered

* Driver's License Personal & Tribal Vehicle
* Insurance Required

* Driver Safety Training
* Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certified within six (6) months of employment, and annually thereafter
* Child Abuse Reporting Policy (CARP) Training (Hrd) within ninety (90) days of employment
* Advance Wilderness First Aid
* Belay Certified
* American Canoe Association (ACA) Instructor
* British Canoe Union (BCU) Instructor
* Lifeguard Cerification
* Climbing Instructor Certification
* Ropes Course Lead Certification
* Paddling Lead Certification

* Wilderness First Aid Certification within six (6) months of employment, and annually thereafter.

A Tuberculosis (TB) Screening and/or a 2 step TB Skin Test is required within thirty (30) days of employment.
