Summary
 

Responsible for preventative maintenance and repair of aggregate plant processing equipment including but not limited to, stationary machinery as well as mechanical equipment. This includes conveyor systems, shakers, pumps, gearboxes, and other equipment. As a maintenance mechanic, you may perform various tasks, including fabrication, welding, cutting, greasing, housekeeping, as well as other shop or processing duties. 
 

Responsibilities
 

  • Conduct pre-shift OSHA safety inspections of equipment and work areas

  • Make repairs and adjustments to machinery and assist in dismantling all or parts of machinery to repair or replace defective components

  • Operate cranes, manlifts, hoists, hand tools, power tools, cutting torches, welding equipment, as well as other specialty service equipment as needed

  • Assist in electrical projects and performs minor electrical repairs

  • Assist in pipe fitting tasks and able to perform some installation tasks unassisted

  • Perform certain portions of repairs to power industrial equipment, assists in rebuilding of related equipment

  • Assist in the installation of new plant equipment

  • Maintain production equipment in good operating condition while optimizing equipment uptime to ensure the safe and timely manufacture of quality coatings

  • Improve reliability and operating efficiency of plant equipment

  • Conduct preventive maintenance tasks in a timely manner to ensure operation of all equipment, in an efficient and safe manner

  • Support site housekeeping and safety programs, maintaining a workplace that is clean and safe

  • Participation towards completion of other related tasks and duties as directed or needed

  • Maintain paperwork and backlog process to completion reporting directly to Plant Manager

  • Train and coach other employees on maintenance practices 

 

Basic Qualifications
 

  • Must have at least 5 years experience related to heavy duty maintenance, preferably in aggregates industry 

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Understand basic electrical and pneumatic diagrams, familiar with 12 VDC to 480 VAC electrical wiring or circuits and capable of diagnosing 115 VAC control circuitry

  • Experience with performing preventative maintenance and repairs to conveyor systems

  • Must have arc welding and oxy/fuel cutting experience

  • Must have basic electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic knowledge

  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively with team members

  • Must be able to work 8-12 hour shifts, weekends, overtime, and holidays as needed

  • Demonstrate proficiency with oxy/acetylene torch and stick welding, MIG is a plus

  • Ability to work with little to no supervision

  • Must be able to identify and order basic parts (bearings, idlers, screens, pulleys)

  • Must be able to communicate over two-way radio or with hand signals and warning sounds 

  • Must be able to field lay out and fabricate steel

  • Proficiency with a wide variety of hand tools and power tools

 

Physical Environment

 

  • Climb up to 20 feet above ground on ladders and catwalks

  • Walk/stand on uneven ground throughout workday

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs

  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions

  • Ability to wear hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, reflective vests, body harness, welding hood
