Position: Behavior Technician
Position FTE: 1.0 FTE
Pay Grade: 10
Starting Wage: $21.28 plus $5.00 premium pay for RBT credential
Days Per Year: 202
Shift hours: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Class Summary: The Behavioral Technician will work directly with students who have behavioral needs by implementing behaviorally based interventions within the educational environment. This position will work under the supervision of the Behavioral Health Specialist Supervisor or the Director of Student Support Services, as well as receive clinical supervision hours by a district- provided BCBA.
Distinguishing Characteristics: The Behavior Technician will provide 1:1 services to individual students, as well as support for the classroom setting.
Duty No. Essential Duties Frequency Band/ Grade 1 Responds to high-need situations that may develop in a school or schools as directed by Student Support Services.
2 Collaborates with principals and teachers to provide behavioral and instructional Tier II and Tier III interventions as directed by Student Support Services.
3 Provides skills instruction to individuals and /or small groups in a variety of learning environments.
4 Works collectively with school staff on implementing behavior support plans and modeling appropriate support strategies. 5 Works with behavior programs as necessary to provide support services to individual students or student groups.
6 Collaborates with building staff to collect and use data to inform implementation of evidence-based Tier II and Tier III interventions.
7 Participates in IEP meetings as needed. 8 Drives substantial distances between district-wide school sites as necessary.
9 Maintains flexible schedule, working within both elementary and secondary schedules as necessary.
10 Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of the process and specifics of MSBSD Behavior Framework for Tiered Plan of Services.
- Knowledge and skills to provide individual and group interventions to students with Tier II and Tier III emotional/behavioral needs.
High school diploma or GED, AND
Two years of college (at least 48-semester hour credits); or
Associate's (or higher) degree; or
Pass the Para Pro Assessment and the Paraprofessional Standards Checklist.
Skills (position requirements at entry):
- Ability to keep and maintain accurate records and to meet deadlines.
- Ability to implement Positive Behavior Intervention Plans
- Ability to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with students, staff, administration, and parents.
- Understanding and willingness to work with challenging students with high behavior needs.
Training and Experience (position requirements at entry): Experience providing services to students with challenging behavior is required. Mandt certification is required within 60 days of hire.
Other trainings provided with completion expected include:
- Tiers II and III Behavior Interventions (e.g. CICO, self-monitoring, home note, behavior contracting, hot pass, social emotional learning, behavior improvement plans, group and individual social emotional learning).
- Trauma Informed Services
- Zones of Regulation
- BSP components
Physical Requirements: Must safely be able to lift 40 lbs. Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work. Must be able to drive substantial distances to provide services between district-wide school sites.
