We are currently seeking a Mental Health Consultant in Denison, IA. This opportunity is a part-time position and is available as a 1099 hire or part-time employee.

In this role as a Mental Health Consultant, you will develop, implement, and monitor the Mental Health Program to include staff development, mental health counseling of students, TEAP program counseling, according to the Job Corps federal regulations and the Policy and Requirements Handbook. You will demonstrate an on-going commitment to preparing young people for the workforce by modeling, mentoring, and monitoring excellence in the eight Career Success Standards of: workplace relations and ethics; information management; communications; multicultural awareness; personal growth and development; career and personal planning; interpersonal skills and independent living.  This position reports to the Health and Wellness Manager.

 

Essential Job Duties:

  • Responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of the center's Mental Health Program, including supervision of all mental health interns and employees.
  • Advises the Center Director and Health Services staff of all mental health matters.
  • Conducts staff development and training in the use of mental health principles and techniques.
  • Develops, schedules and documents weekly staff training as required by Job Corps regulation and the PRH.
  • Consults and promotes the coordination and integration of mental health with other center programs and activities.
  • Provides consultation with Health Services staff and all other appropriate staff concerning student mental health issues.
  • Develops constructive programs for meeting students' mental health issues and works with center disciplinary, maximum benefits, intergroup relations and the AODA prevention programs.
  • Documents and submits forms and correspondence to local, state, and federal agencies to meet all program requirements.
  • Ensures and maintains confidentiality of all records.
  • Issues and maintains Standing Orders on all mental health issues as required by the National Job Corps program.
  • Provides evaluation and diagnostic services to inpatient or outpatient students.
  • Provides limited psychiatric treatment as permitted by licensure.
  • Provides appropriate case information to center staff on a needs-to-know basis.
  • Arranges off-center referrals and treatments as needed according to National Job Corps directives.
  • Provides on-call mental health services for emergencies, 24-hours a day, 7 days a week. MHC may provide services by phone or in person. May choose arrangements for services on behalf of the center.
  • Provides documentation and referrals for students who are recommended for termination from the program.

 

Qualifications Include:

  • Licensed Psychiatrist, Clinical Psychologist or Psychiatric Social Working
  • Must be licensed to practice in Iowa
  • Must have experience working with disadvantaged youth
  • Job Corps experience preferred
  • Knowledge of mental health issues of disadvantaged youth
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulation
  • Strong assessment skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal, written, and listening
  • Must have a valid Iowa driver's license with acceptable driving record

Will also accept Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Clinical Professional Counselors (LCPC) and Licensed Mental Health Counselors (LMHC)
