Description

Job Duties

  • Provides leadership, strategic direction, project management, and fiscal oversight for the Office of Student Affairs.
  • Serves as a key member of XOCOM's leadership team, providing executive leadership over efforts to enhance and sustain a campus environment that supports student success, stimulates developmental and professional growth, emphasizes leadership and professionalism, and engages students.
  • Oversees the delivery of student services, including registration, enrollment, and academic records management.
  • Develops and implements student policies and procedures in collaboration with faculty and administration to ensure a supportive and equitable learning environment.
  • Coordinates programs and activities to enhance student development, including leadership development, career counseling, and professional development opportunities.
  • Supervises, coordinates, advises, and promotes student organizations.
    • Assists student organizations in establishing appropriate governance structures and in complying with all XOCOM requirements.
    • Collaborates with student organizations and governance bodies to solicit feedback and input in the development of student policies, promoting student voice and engagement in government processes.
  • Works with the Associate Dean for Medical Education to create a positive and effective learning environment.
  • Collaborates with the Associate Dean for Research and Ochsner Chief Scientific Officer to support student research initiatives, opportunities, and training.
  • Develops and administers the student affairs budget.
  • Serves as the primary contact and advocate for student counseling and intervention efforts.
  • Manages student conduct and disciplinary issues, ensuring compliance with XOCOM policies and procedures.
  • Participates in relevant XOCOM and university committees and task forces related to student affairs, representing the interests of students.
  • Supports XOCOM's efforts to attract and serve a diverse student body and to promote an inclusive environment.
  • Serves a leadership role in the development and implementation of all Title IX initiatives.
  • Assists with planning and implementation of student related events including orientation, white coat ceremony, match day, graduation, etc.

Required Education and Work Experience

  • MD, DO, PhD, EdD, or equivalent degree with a min of 5 years of academic medicine administration experience in such roles as assistant/associate dean, course director, residency director, or clerkship director at an LCME-accredited US Medical School
  • Knowledge of and prior experience with LCME (Liaison Committee for Medical Education) accreditation, NRMP, and MSPE

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Knowledge of LCME and SACSCOC accreditation standards, assessment practices and methods in medical education.
  • Demonstrated leadership success in academia and administration.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning.
  • Excellent collaboration skills, with the ability to cultivate relationships, think creatively and solve problems.
  • Performs detailed work in a deadline-driven environment with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders (e.g., co-workers, students, community members) and a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Ability to effectively mentor diverse individuals.
  • Excellent team-building skills and the ability to work with all constituencies in a unique environment of medical education in the context of the Ochsner Health and Xavier University of Louisiana relationship.
  • Maintained strong work ethic, an approachable leadership style, and a consistent focus on Student Affairs' immediate and strategic goals.
  • Demonstrated ability utilizing technology to facilitate and strengthen student affairs activities.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
