Position Summary:

NRECA's Finance department manages the accounting, financial planning/budgeting, and procurement operations across a broad range of entities and businesses that support NRECA and its affiliated organizations, trusts, and other entities. We are a team of dynamic individuals collaborating across NRECA to implement best practices and provide innovative business solutions. We are looking for a senior accountant with minimum 5 years accounting experience performing general ledger, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation and analysis to support the business operations of the Business & Technology Strategies department. Our ideal candidate would also have experience working on federal government grants & contracts and be able to assist with two annual audits as well as help prepare annual budgets and a 990 non-profit tax return.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the accounting operations for the BTS dept. and be able to respond to requests from Finance & other NRECA business leaders on the accounting results for the BTS dept. Become the responsible individual within Finance on BTS dept. accounting matters and lead the annual budgeting and three budget reforecasting processes for the BTS dept.
- Collaborate regularly with NRECA staff within Finance on accounting matters to help resolve billing and payment issues for the BTS dept. Also collaborate with the various BTS dept. business leaders and stakeholders on actual project results compared to budgets. Collaborate with the BTS stakeholders to complete the annual budgeting and three budget reforecasting processes to help achieve financial goals for the BTS dept.
- Oversee the monthly accounting and financial statement preparation and perform budget to actual variance analysis. Oversee the daily, weekly, quarterly, and annual compliance deadline items are met. Responsible for preparing workpapers and assisting with the annual consolidated & single audits as it applies to the BTS dept. activities.
- Review the various monthly accounting transactions for the BTS dept. and be able to correct any coding discrepancies to report proper results on a project level. Review the monthly financial statement results and be able to report these to NRECA upper management within Finance & the BTS department.
- Participate in professional development to build and maintain skills and knowledge in the grants, contracts, and non-profit business arenas. Participate in various Finance department quarterly staff meetings and team building events to build repour with colleagues and strengthen working relationships.
- Work with various NRECA Finance department staff such as accounts receivable & payable staff to help resolve project coding questions and other discrepancies. Regular communication with various BTS department staff on their project operations and financial results. Work with Finance & BTS leaders to prepare information for the four NRECA Board meetings as needed.
- Ensure accurate, timely and relative financial information is prepared and presented to NRECA Finance and BTS dept. business leaders to support the NRECA strategic goal of strong financial performance. Provide the highest level of Service Excellence in dealing with customers and colleagues.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Minimum 4 years Bachelor's degree in accounting
- Accounting/Business administration background
- Excellent analytical, communications and collaboration skills.
- Strong time management skills to handle a variety of deadlines & work assignments.
- Ability toperform various daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting work accurately to ensure timely financial results are reported to stakeholders. Team player able to work independently.
- 5-10 years accounting experience performing general ledger, billing assistance, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
- Experience working on federal government grants & contracts.
- Prepare annual budgets and a 990 non-profit tax return.
Essential Physical Requirements:
- The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal and extensive reading.
- Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
