Description

Northwell Health's Department of Behavioral Health is recruiting a full-time board certified psychiatrist to be the Department of Psychiatry Chairperson at South Shore University Hospital (Formerly Southside) located in Bayshore, New York. We are seeking applicants with outstanding clinical and managerial skills who have a passion for leading, directing and developing an academically-oriented behavioral health center of excellence.

This key leadership position will provide physician oversight of the Department of Psychiatry at South Shore University Hospital. The department consists of an Emergency Psychiatry Service, a Consultation-Liaison Service, and an array of Trainee rotations. There is no inpatient psychiatry unit and no outpatient psychiatry services. There are plans underway for the hospital to serve as a core site for a new General Psychiatry Residency program in the region. The Chair will work collaboratively with hospital and health system leaders to meet and exceed the departments organizational, clinical, operational and financial goals. Responsibilities include clinician recruitment, education, supervision, strategic development, and process improvement initiatives.

Interested candidates are required to have an MD/DO or equivalent from an accredited College of Medicine and completion of Psychiatry Residency with Board Certification. Candidates must be licensed as a physician in the State of New York with previous leadership experience in a hospital department, preferably in a major medical center or health system. Candidate should possess outstanding communication and management skills, and an ability to work collaboratively with medical staff, hospital management, and other personnel.

South Shore University Hospital is Northwell's rapidly expanding tertiary care hospital in the Eastern Region with a recent $600 million investment as part of its transformation: with centers of excellence in heart and lung, neuroscience, neurosurgery, and maternity care. The renovated Emergency Department contains a state-of-the-art locked psychiatric wing built to CPEP specifications, with a multidisciplinary team including social work support.

Benefits at Northwell Health include:

  • Nationally competitive salaries
  • Comprehensive benefits package
  • Four weeks' vacation plus paid conference/CME time
  • Academic appointment in Psychiatry at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell
  • Advanced education opportunities
  • College Tuition reimbursement for dependent children
