Job Description

Uses data-driven approaches, notably data analytics and RTC modeling, to identify and evaluate network capacity improvement opportunities that lead to capital and operating expense reductions and/or revenue improvement.

 

Principal Duties:


•    Engages in line and terminal capacity planning analysis, simulation studies, and engages in project management.
•    Provides thoroughly researched and documented recommendations to project team members.
•    Provides technical expertise to identify capacity-enhancing opportunities on the network.
•    Applies working knowledge or the ability to learn Norfolk Southern business activities including the transportation network, transportation operations, dispatch operations, operating infrastructure, and commercial functions.
•    Possesses strong computer and systems skills.
•    Uses simulation software during rail infrastructure and process improvement projects.
•    Participates in capacity studies that involve train dispatch and operations, terminal and local yard operations, as well as other core functions of Industrial Engineering. 
•    Discusses operating trends and validates modeling results with Transportation and NOC leaders.

 

Job Related Experience:  
Minimum Level: 3 -5 years  
Preferred Level: 6-10 years

 

Education:
Preferred Level: Bachelor's Degree (BS, BA) in Business, Engineering, Logistics. Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, Capacity Management or similar field of study.  
  
 

Skills Required: 
•    3 years experience in a Dispatcher, Analyst or Operations position.  
•    Experience with MS Office Suite 
•    MS Word/Word Processing
•    MS Powerpoint/Presentations
•    MS Excel/Spreadsheets 

 

Skills Preferred: 
•    NS Business experience including the transportation network, transportation operations, dispatch operations, operating infrastructure, and commercial functions.
•    Railroad dispatching, operations or capacity planning experience. 
•    Uses simulation software during rail infrastructure improvement projects with RTC or similar. 
•    Data visualization experience in TIBCO, Tableau, PowerBI or similar. 
•    Experience with Inventory Management Systems within transportation and logistics environments such as TYES/UTCS.
