Job Description:

The Senior Electrical Systems Engineer – Solar Trackers is a hybrid role (3x per week onsite) that will be based at our headquarters in Fremont, California.

In this position, you will report to the Senior Systems Engineering Manager.

Here is a glimpse of what you will do:

  • Become an expert about the solar industry and Nextracker hardware and software products

  • Support the tracker design, including functional block diagrams, interface definitions and system-level requirement development to ensure design robustness, safety, and reliability

  • Perform technical trade studies and cost analysis of design solutions

  • Build high-fidelity analytical models of electrical and mechanical components; integrate them into system-level models that can simulate and predict performance and operation

  • Gather, process, and analyze field data and factory test data to guide the investigation and resolution of service anomalies and improve future products

  • Provide guidance and feedback to the Electrical, Mechanical, Firmware and Software teams and other company functions through the development cycle to bring new products from concept to market

  • Regularly communicate with the Product Management organization to understand the product needs and translate them into engineering requirements and design solutions

  • Manage system level requirements across the product lifecycle

  • Create and implement test plans to debug and validate designs to meet functional and performance goals

  • Participate in system level design and process FMEAs to ensure design robustness, safety, and reliability

Here is some of what you will need (required):

  • BS/MS in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering or equivalent

  • 5+ years project design experience in utility-scale solar power plants or equivalent, from concept through construction to as-built documents

  • Experience with renewable grid integration and smart grid deployment

  • Strong eye toward safety, constructability, and system maintenance, not just what works on paper

  • Experience performing trade studies and lifecycle cost analysis

  • Familiarity operating in a multi-disciplinary and multi-functional environment

  • Proven ability to work independently and on teams

Here are a few of our preferred experiences:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) in Electrical Engineering (licensed in California is preferred)

  • Knowledge of applicable renewable energy and electrical codes and standards

  • System-level design and integration

  • Writing product requirement specifications, verification plans and test plans

  • FMEA, root cause analysis, investigation of service anomalies

Salary Range - $170,000-$200,000
