What you will do:

The Materials Specialist handles shipping (freight and parcel), loading and offloading trucks, processing orders for shipment, pulling orders, receiving trucks, packaging parts for shipment or stock as needed, part put away, cycle counting, combining product, and working with scanners.

 

Some key responsibilities for Materials Specialists:

  • Verify and keep records on incoming and outgoing shipments
  • Accurately pull and prepare orders for shipment according to customer specifications
  • Prepare items for shipment, any needed packaging, labeling, including wrapping and weighing the pallet
  • Determine method of shipment utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates
  • Affix shipping labels on packed cartons
  • Unpack, examine, and route incoming shipments, reject damaged items, record shortages, and correspond with shipper to rectify damages and shortages
  • Combine like parts into locations
  • Perform cycle counts and bin validations, as required
  • Accuracy when counting parts, both incoming and outgoing
  • Combine like parts into location
  • Operate a fork truck to lift, move, or hoist shipping/receiving materials from the shipping/receiving area to storage or work area
  • Operate any equipment deemed necessary for the department
  • Maintain above average attendance
  • Put product into proper locations
  • Combine parts as needed
  • Maintain self-motivation and work with minimum supervision
  • Reponsible for direct, effective communication with customers, vendors, and service providers, including order fulfillment, delivery status, product availability, and freight information
  • Provide accurate measurements and identification of parts from schematics
