Position qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited school of Nursing preferred, licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Colorado required; Minimum three (2) years previous nursing leadership experience in an addiction/substance use disorder (SUD) setting preferred, or a Masters Degree in Nursing with 3 years of Nursing experience. Must have comprehensive nursing theory and practice with administrative and leadership abilities. Must receive ANCB certification within 2 years.

 

Job purpose:

Provides unit-based leadership for the unit SUD nursing/medical team including withdrawal management and residential units.  Administratively responsible for the nursing care provided by licensed staff nurses (RNs and LPNs) and unlicensed clinical staff (EMTs and MAs). Reports to the SUD Provider Lead with matrix management from the SUD Director.  Provides input into the SUD programs' strategic planning, organizational goals, process & procedures, budgets, evaluation of nursing care, quality improvement, and risk management. Responsible for all aspects of Human Resource functions such as hiring, discipline, scheduling, etc. under the direction and guidance of the SUD Director and/or Human Resources Department. Responsible for ensuring the Intake/Admissions process for incoming clients is done in a timely manner.  Provides direction to the nursing staff for complex cases. Provides referral, authorization, and medical review services as needed. May be required to assume the duties of unit nursing staff when needed. May be required to cover other units as needed in the absence of a colleague. 

 

Knowledge, Skill & Ability(include materials and equipment directly used):

  • Ability to quickly develop rapport with individuals to perform essential nursing duties and resolve crisis situations as necessary.
  • Ability to assess individual's potential for dangerousness to self, to others and/or grave disability.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate successfully with hospital staff and external customers.
  • Ability to appropriately and immediately document interactions with patients and potential patients.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all patient information per HIPAA regulations, federal and state law, and facility policies and procedures. 
  • CPR/BLS Certification for Healthcare Provider prior to independent client care required.
  • Training/Certification in de-escalation and management of agitated and threatening individuals required prior to independent client care.  Must have ability to perform duties required by this training to provide verbal de-escalation and redirection if necessary (Training for certification will be provided).
  • Working knowledge of Windows based computer applications to include Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, and Internet access.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment including computer, copier, fax and multi-line telephone.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills to develop and maintain effective working relationships with all internal and external customers.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload in a busy environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to exercise frequent independent judgement and initiative.
  • Ability to effectively assign, prioritize and direct the work assignments and scheduling of staff reporting to this position.

 

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Employee is frequently required to walk, sit, stand, or kneel and occasionally required to climb and stoop.  Must have ability to sit for longer periods of time at a computer.  Employee must be able to travel between Mind Springs sites.  May be exposed to stressful situations that involve enraged, distraught and/or intoxicated individuals with possible mental health conditions. Possible exposure to communicable disease. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
