Shift hours: 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Specific job responsibilities relevant for this position include: This position calls for a flexible individual who enjoys working with students in various grade levels (K-8). The aide will work closely with the classroom and special education teacher to help with small group instruction of both general education and special education students. As an instructional aide you will facilitate reading, math, and blended-model groups for diverse levels of students. From the direction of the classroom teacher, other instructional positions may arise. The aide will also monitor students in both the academic and recreational setting. Other responsibilities include cleaning of the classroom along with some areas of the school.
Class Summary: Under direct supervision performs a variety of tasks related to the safe and efficient operations in a classroom environment in accordance with the mission, philosophy and foundation of the charter school.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
Knowledge: Completed two years (48 semester credits) of study at an institution of higher education; or obtained as associates degree or met a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate, through a formal State or local assessment, knowledge of an the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing and mathematics (or, as appropriate, reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness.) Specific knowledge and understanding of the mission, philosophy and foundation of the charter school.
Skills (position requirements at entry): Must have ability to comply with strict confidentiality standards. Ability to maintain effective communication with students, staff, parents and member of the community, and to function effectively as a team member. Ability to carry out and evaluate the achievement of students after the teacher prepares the lesson and plans the instructional support activities. Ability to follow establish testing protocols, and keep accurate records through the established data management system. Must demonstrate adequate skill and knowledge of instruction technology.
Training and Experience (position requirements at entry): Must have a current first aid certification and knowledge of the Districts emergency response procedures.
Licensing Requirements (position requirements at entry): A valid Alaska Driver's License.
Physical Requirements: Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker stands and sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
